I have system with 2 crossovered ATI 4870x2 videoadapters. CUDA don't recognize it, probably because it no Gforce. There is any other software to make it work with projects? |

CUDA is strictly nVidia only, so ATi card owners such as myself are not included as of yet. There is no other software to make ATi cards work at the moment because of this. BOINC is looking to support OpenCL which is an open standard for GPGPU processing which should be able to support ATi and nVidia and any other card adhering to the specifications, but this may be a long ways off. |

And even then, someone will have to port over the Seti applications to the new "standard". Don't expect any of this for the next few months. Although a development at Milkyway may move things forward for Brook+ support for BOINC. But I am not getting my hopes up. ;) |

I currently am running an ATI hd3800 on top of a phanteon quad w/ 8gb mem... any performance enhancing tips? unfortunately, have to run windows on machine for CAD purposes... and cant justify going crossover just to crunch data, exp. with this economy... is there a leaner command line program, or any tweaks you would recomend to boost efficiency since I have limited horsepower?? Thanks, am a total newbie to the whole thing, only getting ~1k credits a day, would like to increase my contribution! |

The best place to learn about them is over in the Number Crunching forum. You can: * Turn off all essential non-system services in Windows to make sure few processes get the CPU's attention over the science app. Note that if you need many of the non-system services for other work, this may not be a viable option for you. This is typically for dedicated crunchers who do not use their machines for anything else but crunching data. * Overclock your machine. This is only for people who are prepared to accept that their machine may not last as long under higher heat/pressure. * Run an optimized application made specifically for your processor's instruction set, e.g. SSE, SSE2, SSE3, etc. Note that running an optimized application breaks BOINC's ability to auto-upgrade the science app, so if a project releases an update, you are responsible to see if there's an update to your optimized application, or to use the newer stock app until a newer optimized app becomes available. The command line program actually come with BOINC (BOINCCMD.EXE), but it is marginally faster, if at all, then the actual program. Command line programs get most of their speed if there is no GUI running, so with Windows NT and all its successors (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), the GUI is always running, therefore command line clients get very little boost in performance. |

The command line program actually come with BOINC (BOINCCMD.EXE) One small correction, the command line program is boinc.exe. With boinccmd.exe you can give commands to the client. But before you go do so, you must make sure that boinc.exe is running, else boinccmd.exe won't do much. (And I don't think it starts the client, just as Boinc Manager does). For commands, see this Wiki entry. To see which commands are used with boinc.exe, run boinc.exe /? in a command line window. |
