Today the FreeBSD port astro/boinc-setiathome-enhanced got updated. It installs setiathome 6.03 and astropulse 5.00 from source. This would not have been possible without Dotsch' help. Thanks Dotsch! |

My BOINC manager has (today) downloaded astropulse_5.03_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu and is happily crunching a WU. However, when I examine the executable (Linux "file") it is an "ELF 32-bit LSB executable". I was expecting a 64-bit version. OBTW, the astropulse_5.00_x86_64* previously loaded executable is also ELF 32-bit. The file "setiathome-5.28.x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" is an "ELF 64-bit LSB executable" as I would have expected. So, I am wondering if the Astropulse 64-bit (x86_64) is not out of testing yet and a 32-bit version is a temporary "place holder" or if the wrong file was inadvertently put in the x86_64 slot? It appears harmless that I now have 2 astropulse executables (5.00 and 5.03) in the projects folder. BOINC manager seems to have picked the 5.03 version to use with the current WU. Is there any harm in deleting the 5.00 files? Or, will BOINC manager automatically clean out obsolete versions sometime after newer versions are loaded? |

Hello ! i've installed Boinc as binary on Core-Linux w kernel 2.4.37 built by my minimalistic fashion running on VIA processor ( look at log sniplets below ). i really wish to help SETI but there appears to be some problem as there is only 'computation error' results... ( i've used classic SETI application years ago and tried to use Boinc some time ago by compiling it from source got from Erik J. Korpela of SETI - but without success. Using prebuilt binaries is not my style - but ... ) First i got some 'ERROR: Kernel too old' messages but replaced the SETI app with older version by adding 'app_info.xml' ( look below ) -------------stdoutdae.txt sniplet 1 begins-------------- 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Starting BOINC client version 6.4.5 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8g zlib/1.2.3 c-ares/1.5.1 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Running as a daemon 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Data directory: /opt/BOINC 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [SETI@home] Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Processor: 1 CentaurHauls VIA Samuel 2 [Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 3] 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Processor features: fpu de tsc msr cx8 mtrr pge mmx 3dnow 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] OS: Linux: 2.4.37 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Memory: 122.89 MB physical, 486.33 MB virtual 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Disk: 1.84 GB total, 1.35 GB free 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Local time is UTC +3 hours 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Not using a proxy 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Can't load library libcudart 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] No coprocessors 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Already attached to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [SETI@home] URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 4963696; location: home; project prefs: defau lt 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 01-Jun-2009 00:14:56) 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Computer location: home 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 61.44MB 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 110.60MB 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 0.55GB 01-Jun-2009 04:38:02 [SETI@home] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
