Memristors make it possible to make, for example, non-volatile RAM. Maybe also true artificial intelligence is one step nearer.

They also speak about memristor based analogical computers. I do not know what to do with them, though. :)

The memristor (the fourth circuit element) has been finally invented!

Now that his calculations have been vindicated, he thinks that memristors will be a big deal. They should be crucial in developing 'non-volatile' memory — the type that doesn't decay when the power is switched off.

Most computers use 'volatile memory' to perform their running functions, because this offers faster access to data than the non-volatile memory used to store data on hard disks and flash devices such as iPods. Building computers with memristors might allow a full switch to non-volatile memory, doing away with power-sapping 'running memory' and allowing devices to consume far less power when operating. The electronic technicians biggest nemesis is Heat! The smaller things get, the harder it is to get rid of the heat being produced as a result of resistance in conductors. This will go a long way to resolving many of the problems caused by dissipation of heat.

It's behavior, looks a bit like the 'zener and/or scotky-diode' .
But a bit 'far fetched', because zener's react on tension(Volts), i.s.o. current.
And they can't remember a state without a 2nd 'device'.
