I've got multiple Macs at home, where there's currently no internet access. I do carry an iBook to work, where I can get the net. Is it possible to transfer work units from the iBook to another machine at home to be worked, and then back onto the iBook for uploading? If so, how? Would a memory stick be better/easier? Thanks! |

Yes, although it takes some careful juggling of duplicate BOINC Data folders. See OzzFan’s message under “Internet Access†in the NC forumâ€â€substitute appropriate Mac ‘idioms’ for the Windows directory references there. This may not work if your unconnected computers are dissimilar (in OS version or CPU type) to the iBook. Thumb-drives would be fine for copying to and from, but to run from them would raise a couple of problems: you’d need one for each system, and you’d wear out the flash memory pretty quickly (BOINC writes to disk very frequently). ![]() |
