Ireland's second largest daily newspaper, The Irish Times, wrote a story that gives a good mention to SETI@home and also talks about Ireland's largest SETI@home team - PADDY'S IN SPACE :) This article also went out in the printed edition of the newspaper. Quote The Irish are doing their bit in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. The Paddys in Space website (paddysinspace.com) claims to have 450 members working in unison to persuade ET to land on the old sod. Their mission statement is: “Let’s find them aliens and bring them for a pint!†But, if ET chose our tiny little island out of the vastness of the Milky Way to make their first contact, what kind of message should we send, and in what language? Greetings, About 2 days ago, I received an E-mail and a link from SETI (I hope) to fill out about a 15 minute questionnaire about my participation in the project, how important it was to me, what did I hope to gain from it, and the like. I still have that E-mail and link in my inbox. Just looking for confirmation that this was a real set of questions from SETI, because a quick scan of the message boards reveals nothing about a survey. Bob Wilson (Team Army) |

NPR's Diane Rehm interviews several SETI professionals, including a few words from Eric Korpela. The entire program from Aug 20th, including Q&A, is about 50 minutes. here: http://wamu.org/programs/dr/09/08/20.php#24733 Martin |

18. Now an international agreement is in place preventing any reply to an extraterrestrial signal unless there is agreement that it's a good idea. Hope they (ET's) have a lot of patience, particularly if they already know we're here :-) |

Why everyone has a tendency, ET should be a highly advanced species who several Centuries ahead of us in technological development. What if there are other ET, which was still below human technological development? It's possible right... N = R x fp x ne x fl x fi x fc x L |

Why everyone has a tendency, ET should be a highly advanced species who several Centuries ahead of us in technological development. Hey, I already thought of that, too: What if all earthlike planets exist roughly as long as earth itself? And if intelligent life needs as long (or even longer) than on earth to evolve? In this case WE will be the evil guys enslaving the whole galaxy, muhahahahahaha ;). Just kidding, but... Mankind could be in fact a bigger threat to alien civilisations than the other way round. Just think of the theoretical possibility of launching a nuclear missile to another planet system. It would take billions of years to get there but it would be possible with today's technology and possibly wipe out all the live there as soon as it gets there. Maybe everyone else is fearing to contact us. |
