I have BOINC set to run after 5 minutes of no mouse or keyboard activity and to keep going... i.e. no sleep mode after a period of time. I'm having two problems.

1) BOINC runs all the time regardless of whether I am using the machine or not.

2) The computer powers off to sleep mode after about 20 minutes. I have the power management set to turn off the screen only, but to not sleep.

I am using BOINC in Vista (same machine, Boot Camp) with no problems. I have the OS and BOINC client set correctly and the same in Vista and Leopard.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

I expect you have already done so, but make sure the settings in Activity pull down menu in BOINC Master are correct. If set to "always" this would over-ride other preferences.

Again, I expect you have already tried this, amend preferences from the "Advanced" pull down menu in BOINC Manager, which "applies for this computer only", making sure that "while computer is in use" is not ticked in the Processor panel. (If it is ticked, a time is still shown, but it is grayed out and is not effective.)

Also, double check that the "Energy Saver" options in "System Preferences..." is set to "Never" on Power Adaptor option as well as Battery.

Apologies for mentioning the obvious, but these can easily be overlooked.

I have found that Parallels is (for me) the better alternative for using Windows on Mac.

These are BOINC bugs -- I'm having exactly the same problems, and I'm running OS X 10.5.1. I've checked all the BOINC prefs, and they are all where they should be.

This is strange. Everything seems to work normally in Tiger (OSX 10.4.x) using BOINC Manager 5.10.32 (and in previous versions of BOINC).
I've checked my OSX 10.5.1 and everything seems normal, so long as BOINC Manager "Activity" is set to "Run based on Preferences". That MacBook Pro is running ClimatePrediction only in BOINC Manager and is usually kept on "Run Always" in the Activity option. However, when I changed these settings, the option to start working after x mins of mouse inactivity worked perfectly normally. Are you absolutely sure you've not overlooked that setting in the Activity option of BOINC Manager?

Another possibility might be the preferences being set differently for "Home", "Work", and "none".

There was a problem in changes to settings not "holding" after resetting in earlier versions of BOINC Manager 5.10.x for the "Day of Week over-ride", but I assume you are running the latest, or a later version than that, and, from your remarks, it does not appear that you are having that problem.

If you do not resolve this anomaly, let's compare our settings and see where we differ, as I feel sure this is not a BOINC bug (not in 5.10.32 anyway).
