Science progress does not depend on breakthroughs but on patient work, often unrewarded. The French call it "piocher". Well, actually I mean major discoveries or at least some kind of a discovery. PrimeGrid has found many new prime numbers, hasn't it? How about the other BOINC projects? World Community Grid's Help Defeat Cancer is over. Did it find anything? ![]() Manned mission to Mars in 2019 Petition <-- Sign this, please. |

Science progress does not depend on breakthroughs but on patient work, often unrewarded. The French call it "piocher". If you go to their site you'll find a lot of information on what has been done and what they are planning to do next. I am running Einstein@home in the hope of detecting a gravitational wave from a pulsar and QMC@home in applying the MonteCarlo method to the study of organic molecules. I haven't seen any breakthrough so far and I am not expecting any. But I am still plodding ahead. There is a new BOINC project. Lattice, which seems very promising but I don't have the computing power to enlist. My PII is already overloaded. Cheers. Tullio |

I've forgotten the link(s), but aren't there several projects (like S@H and Folding@Home) proven to be faster/more powerful than certain supercomputers? That would be an accomplishment. ![]() ![]() |
