With baseball playoff fever starting to rise fast, the Green Bay joke reminded me of the '69 Chicago Cubs and a certain black cat. The Cubs were playing quite well. Arguably the best team ever. Near the end of the regular season in a game against the New York Mets, Cubs 3rd baseman Ron Santo was in the on-deck circle. Suddenly a black cat appeared on the field, trotted over towards Santo. The cat circled Santo, and then went towards the Cubs dugout where it's said it stopped and stared straight at Cub's manager Leo Durocher. The Cubs lost that game and went from a 10 game lead earlier in the season, finishing the season 8 games behind the Mets.  ID: 648885 · |
