HA! I caught that quick 500 internal server error. Now where's that flashchat link?

It's back up (been up and down all afternoon) Flashchat is in the header or at the bottom, but there's no one flashing or chatting there right now.

Nope didn't see it anywhere. Had to log in first and then the link appeared on the right.

Hmm.....that's odd. Both the website AND the forums have a tab at the top for it now.

I just clicked it to make sure it was working properly...and the forums came up with all the tabs at the top. Right where they are supposed to be...lol

The next few posts were placed on the Calm Chaos forums...and I thought they should be placed here as well to give prospective members an insight into how we work..

Knightmare

As all of you know, I am loathe to make any kind of demand on any member of the team.

However, it has recently come to my attention that several teams have been using the new Private Message system on the Seti@home forums for team recruitment purposes. It has also come to my attention that many people are now making complaints about teams doing that.

We have managed to gather together quite a diverse range of members, and I am very proud of that fact. We have always been proud of the fact that we are a little different than other teams. We have great interaction with our members, and the " small town feel " ( as it was put by one of our members ) is something that we all should be proud of.

It is with all of this in mind that I am going to ask ALL members our team to please NOT use the Private Messaging System on the Seti@home forums for recruiting purposes.

I say this because of the complaints that have come to my attention. I really don't want people to have us listed among the other teams that have decided to resort to this method.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it is entirely possible that we could wind up with some new members if we don't use it that way. The " no pressure " approach is sometimes the best way to go. Just look at how far we have come in a short 9 months. :-)

Well said.. if anyone wants to get involved with a team it should be based on their needs and desires not that of the masses. I stopped in here because of the name and stayed because of the laid back atmosphere. Anytime I have asked a question it has been responded to by more than one person and I have never been made to feel like an outsider or a noob.. I have not even looked at another team and I am proud to be a part of the accomplishments we have made together.
There is, I am sure, some sence of competitiveness within but that is a healthy attitude and results in even better results for the team as a whole. When I check in at the team stats site I get a little twnge of pride to see my name near or in the top ten performers for SETI. I am realistic enough to understand that I cannot compete with the top performers running multiples of hosts but I do very well in the average users range running from 1 to 4 hosts. When I replaced my Laptop I went strictly for performance actually loading more than I needed in a personal computer but it appears to be doing quite well.

The way I look at it, and I think this has rubbed off on almost all of the other people who have seen how I do things, everyone who joins this teams immediately becomes part of the family. There is no such thing as a " noob " as far as I am concerned. There have been a couple of people who joined us that were brand new to Seti or one of the other projects, but that makes no difference to me ( us ).

I always hated being treated differently on certain forums because I didn't know all of the " normal " things that go on there. Therefore, I believe in being helpful to new people without deriding them for not knowing.

Steven...if you don't mind, I would like to copy and paste your message into our team recruitment thread.

You put things in a very clear manner, and I think that your statement may just help prospective members understand that they will not be treated any differently than they would be if they were a long standing member.

I wanted to post all this so that people could see that we don't care who you are, you will be welcomed to the team and treated like a long standing member.

Hey guys,and welcome Mr.Gray. This is the first time I have actually looked in on our recruitment effort and I must say I am a bit surprised, but on the other hand I guess I'm not really. It took a considerable amount of time to get through the inspiring and educational banter going on throughout this thread and I thought I might attempt to add my views of the team. First of all I have never been a "joiner" the last time I joined something I wound up crawling through triple canopy jungle and rice paddys for over three years, However as an enlisted Marine grunt I did learn many valuable lessons that I have been able to apply to everyday life. Since then I have steered clear of anything that remotely resembled an organization, until I came across Calm Chaos. It was the name that actually peaked my curiosity, the ultimate oxymoron, next to Military Intelligence, (The nine most feared words on the Planet are "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help" President Ronald R. Reagan), so I decided to check them out. I hung around for awhile watching the interaction and found the group to be more like a bunch of acquaintances who get together for a cold beer after work. There is a loosely associated leadership but someone has to keep the thing going, however you would not be aware of who was actually in control if you did not ask or actively research. So I decided to join in, be a part of this small informal gang and I was accepted immediately. It was as if I had been there from the beginning. Asking for help and getting an immediate response, making suggestions and seeing them implemented, the Chaos Garage was mine, and Labbie and I jointly put together the idea of the pets page. You can find anything that might interest you on this site. Music, Sports, Nascar, Formula One, Automotive discussion, Religeon, Politics, got a hot car, ride a motorcycle, have a dog, cat, a goldfish or an armidillo that you want to show off.... if we don't have it you can probably get it added, want a custom signature with the team name on in it Red Atomic can take care of that for you, drive a Mustang? I'm your guy, I have four of them including an 03 Cobra Convertible and I could talk about them for hours, anyway, the answer is always no if you don't ask. You could do a lot worse than Calm Chaos, but you would be hard pressed to find another team like it. If you are just getting started with BOINC or you have been at it for years you will be treated exactly the same. If you need help getting set up or you have the knowledge to help others you can find a spot at Calm Chaos. The primary purpose of any "team" is to generate numbers, but if you can generate those numbers and have some fun at the same time it truely adds to the experience. And who knows maybe it will be one of our group to someday find that faint little signal that SETI is looking for and we will all share in that moment.
So if you are running one little laptop a few hours a day, or you have a room full of servers it doesn't matter there is room for all who want to be a part of it... Welcome to Calm Chaos. Hey KM how about a Poets Corner

I spoke to him via PM on the CC Forums a couple of days ago. He said that, due to the heat in AZ, and the fact that he is trying to cut down on his electric bill, he has suspended any crunching for the time being.

Can't say I blame him....lol

I know you will exercise good taste, as always....Now I'm LMAO....As far as my words about the site, I appreciate your subdued praise. (does that mean no beating tonight?
