I don't have millions of work units completed. Hell, I don't even know what some of those abbreviations that everyone keeps bragging about mean. The one thing that I do know is that SETI@home keeps running on my pc and my numbers keep showing up on the team page. Being all alone, those numbers sure are lonely. You're welcome to join me. Stand with the little guy. Just be a "Friend of SETI" and kick back, have a brew or a Camel and let the big teams do their thing, while we show that a small team can make a contribution, too. Well, thanks much for the invite. I'll remember that in the future. Right now though, I'm finally not alone anymore. A nice gentleman from the UK has joined up with me and we're a team of two. I checked into the idea of "Teams" a few years ago, I got busy with other things and didn't follow up. I have been running Seti@home since 2002. I too consider myself a friend of Seti, and I find joining this team fitting. I am honored to do what I can do for this wonderful Seti project. Hopefully there will be many years of ongoing efforts to come.
I just updated my Boinc software as my version was a little dated. ver. 4.4
I think I am up to date and I made a few changes on my preference. Real life sometimes has a funny way of getting in the way of things that are equally important.

Welcome aboard the "Friends of SETI" team, Keno!! It's so very nice to have you with us! It was nice to get a chance to read your post. I can only hope that someday, I will have been crunching work for SETI as long as you have. I also know all about life getting in the way, at times. I have a family and work and many other things that occupy my time, so I can definitely relate. That's a big reason why I thought this team was a good idea. For those that really don't have the will or the ability to get into a large, active team with all sorts of functions, I felt that this would be ideal, because as a member of this team, you really don't have to do anything other than let SETI@home run in the background. We're the little guy, but the little guy is important, too. Again, welcome to the team, my friend. Have a wonderful day!

That's a great idea! I've often thought about installing and running SAH on my wife's laptop. I know she wouldn't mind, because she likes what I've shown her about SETI and all of the work unit crunching on the desktop. I've hesitated to put it on hers though, because it is only on at most, about 2-3 hours a day. I'm not sure that we'd make much progress with so little computing time. If she ever starts spending more time with it powered up, I may go ahead and do it, just to have a little extra crunching on this end, too.

By the way Keno, I wanted to thank you for something else too. Since I found SETI and decided to participate, I've been thinking about making a donation. I know that there's a link on the main page and that there are pleas for help in quite a bit of other places that one looks, but I had put it off until I could find the time to look into the particulars. Well, this afternoon, when I first met you, I saw the star next to your name. I had no idea what it was, so I clicked on it to see what it meant. After that, I learned exactly how easy it is to make a donation and I did so right away. Now, thanks to you, I was able to donate a little financial help to this wonderful cause. I don't know why, but I thought that I had already responded to your comment about the trout. I was re-reading the team thread a minute ago and noticed that indeed, I had not done so! I certainly meant to comment on it, because I absolutely LOVE fishing!

I mostly fish from the bank and limit myself to cat fish, bluegill, crapie, bass, etc. I've always wanted to go trout fishing, but I'm too intimidated to give it a try. Don't you have to fly fish for trout? If so, that's why I'm afraid. I sometimes watch fly fishing on television and it looks so alien to me. It seems like a lot to learn, so I've just never really bothered. As if that weren't enough, I'm totally confused as to exactly how many species of trout there truly are. There seem to be an unbelievable amount and each species seems to prefer different flies, lures, etc. That's a bit much for me. Take bass for example. You have large mouth and small mouth and they'll both bite on worms. There are different names, but that's pretty much the two categories (unless one wants to talk about sea bass et al). With trout, off of the top of my head, there are brown, rainbow, yellow and on and on.

I know, I'm making a big deal of this, but you can now see the reason why I've never tried to tie a fly and don a pair of waders. For you though, CONGRATULATIONS! What kind of trout did you catch? Are you catch and release, or did you get to eat em? Are you planning to go again anytime soon? Just curious is all. Anyway, sorry again that I didn't comment before. I thought that I had. It's easy that way, because if someone wants to be on a team, but not have to worry about anything else, this team is ideal. With that in mind though, if you or any other team member (or future member) have any suggestions for me to do something with or for the team, please don't hesitate to let me know. I may have founded this team, but it isn't mine. It is OURS! As such, I'm happy to do anything that I can to help out. Any ideas for new wording of the team description or activities or projects, etc, are always welcome. The only thing that is important to me is that anything the team ever does or becomes involved in, should be voluntary and never mandatory, because the team is designed on the premise that there are no requirements other than to crunch work units. No worries. I'm glad to respond to posts from you and anyone responding to this thread.
Actually the trout were real easy to catch. Patience is the main ingredient.
These are Rainbow Trout. Stockies are what they are referred to. I live in Northern NJ, and they release 1 yr. old rainbow for the winter fishing program in select lakes.
I caught these 2 1+ lb. rainbow trout on a regular spin cast rod using nothing more the Power Bait for Trout. Also Night Crawler worms work. Caught midday around 2PM. Caught these this past Jan. I took my 2 son's to this same lake a week or 2 in a row when they were off from school.Usually on a Monday. It's nice to be off on Monday's from work. Yes we did eat these. Wrapped in alum foil based with butter and spices and cooked on the grill wrapped in the foil.

This was the 3rd time in my lifetime that I paid for and held a fishing lisence with the expensive trout stamp. I was determined to catch a trout finally! See I never had the luck or skill? to catch one of these. I went opening day a few ywars ago with my brother-in-law and his son's and froze my a$$ off.Down stream and then some not far from the hatchery. Plus it snowed that April day. I had fishing Waders on that began to leak that I had to repair on site then returned to the water return to fish.One cold soggy foot wasn't all too bad. We used special trout lures. Of coarse everyone else in the group (5 included a friend and his son) caught a trout except me. We all used the same lures. And then back when I was 16 I bought a trout stamp and fiahed a lake in Little Ferry, Nj called Indian Lake. I went during the summer so I only caught a sunny or a bass. THe trout were pretty much gone a week after opening day back then as everyone fished them out. Plus trout are a cooler weather fish.

I caught a few bass. Much more fun to catch is my opinion. Trout have a good fight, but the largemouth bass I caught in Georgia were big, heavy and fighters.
That was when I was in the US Army and stationed in Augusta, GA back in 1981-82.
My boy's and I caught a few large mouth bass this past summer. 1/2 lb TO 1lb. Just getting out and spending the time with them was enough for me. They did most of the fishing and I mostly baited the hooks with night crawlers and watched them fish.
My hectic night-shift schedule (job) keeps me away more at this time at my newest job. It won't last forever. Doing what I must now to be more prepared for the coming future.Going to night school 2 nights a week on top of that. A must to further advance in the new field I fell into 1 1/2 years ago. I was a telecom man for over 23 years and I changed occupations after being laid off in 2005.
Anywho.... Always happy to respond.

Ok, you've obviously shown me one thing that I didn't know. I feel silly for thinking that you could only fish for trout by fly fishing. I'm glad to learn that this isn't the case. I bet they made for some real good eating, too! I know all about what you mean regarding taking your sons fishing. Just having my son with me is more important than whatever he and I are doing at the time. Besides, when we're fishing, I'm like you and am much too busy helping him than to be able to actually have a line in the water myself. I'm sure that will change as he gets older, though. He'll only be 12 this year. Anyway, it sounds like you definitely deserved to finally catch some, after all that you had been through. I guess some experiences are always better than others. As far as fighting is concerned, I haven't ever hooked a trout, so I can't say about them, but I definitely agree with you on bass. They can sure put up some fight!

Thanks for the links, too. I'll definitely check them out. I'm especially interested in trying to get into fly fishing some day, but it may have to wait until some time in the future, when I'm better able to invest the time for a new hobby. It seems like a lot to learn and like I said, I think I'm a bit intimidated by it. Funny that you should mention the Army and Georgia. I spent some time at Ft Benning, GA when I was in the Army, but I never had any time to go fishing. Although, I do recall more than one party on the banks of the Chatahoochie, during passes. All of my other duty stations were places that were far from ideal for fishing purposes. By the way, it sure sounds like you have a full plate and a lot of irons in the fire. My goodness, I thought my life was hectic, but it sounds like you're busier than a bee. I'm surprised you find time to do anything with your schedule. Oh well, we do what we can, I guess. Hi there Friends of SETI. I've taken the plunge and joined your team (as long as that's alright with everyone)!

I've now been on SETI since (about) Fri, 16th Feb. 2007, so this is a bit new to me. Although many years ago I ran Classic on a very old & slow machine. I also tried to join SETI@home about 2 years ago but had problems with BOINC, so I didn't proceed any further with it (until Friday).

I thought it was best to join a newish team and I liked the sound of Friends with SETI. SO here I am.
