Hi Guys, I installed the new version 5.8.8 into my MAC Mini G4. After I installed it, I try to run but it gave me a error message. It reads:

BONIC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BONIC. (Error code -1010)

Clean install and Upgrade both doesn't work....

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Could you please try to repair the rights by the harddisk tool.

I tried it for two times, it still doesn't work...

Well, I was kinda playing around the system configuration of the apache. I might screw up something... Going to format my Mac and install OS X Tiger again and see how it works.

Thanks for you help

I think a format is not needed.
I had a user today with some other install problems of 5.8.8. I will forward your and his install problems to the devs.
He help to install 5.4.9 and use it, till the install problems are fixed.

Thanks, but I think format is still needed. I use the uninstall instruction provided by the readme file and it doesn't work. The older verison of 5.4.9 doesn't let me to install anying and pop up a message says "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install."

So I will either format my computer again just to run SETI, or I will just let my comptuer do nothing until the new version come out. :P

I've had the same problem. Installed and runs fine on my Intel iMac, but I get a PostIntall error on a G4 tower and G3 laptop. Just tried the new 5.8.15 and got the same thing. Didn't want to make a full time project out of it, but I've got a couple of G4s and the laptop sitting around a lot. I ran disk utility and fixed permissions on the G4 with the same result.

I managed to get version 5.8.15 running on my G5 1.8 by dint of detaching Seti from it and then re-attaching. I wish that I hadn't managed to so do because now every work unit goes into an endless loop of [error] Process 19801 not found. It then starts over again and this time the error is Process 22573 not found. I have not been able to complete one work unit in over 24 hours.

Do you use CPU throtteling ? - At which value is is set ?
The BOINC client would detect a timeout of a WU and restart it again. So you can savely let it running and ignore this messages.

Maybe try setting this one to “yes”?

Everything went into a loop of Process not found, the WU went back to zero and the time to completion increased to over 30 hours (after the WU had already been running for 36 hours) so I removed the latest version o0f Boinc Manager and started again with an earlier version.

Remove the 'boinc.pkg' file in the directory /Library/Receipts/ and try again... ;)

I have the same problem too.

When I try to install the BOINC Client software (of course the latest version) the installer says "Please reinstall."
It was no use to try again and again.

Then I found an application of BOINC that was installed (or just placed) in my Applications folder.
But when I open that BOINC app., an alart message just says;

BOINC ownership or permissions are not set properly; please reinstall BOINC.
(Error code -1010)

Finally I got an e-mail of "Please rejoin SETI@home" today ;(
Help me!!

My System is:
Good ol' iMac G4 800MHz 512MB
OS X 10.4.9

Tried:
BOINC Client
5.8.17 & 5.4.9
(Standard GUI)

There could be some problemes after the upgrade from the BOINC client. With this procedure, you can fix it :
- Stop the BOINC client
- let the Mac_SA_Insecure.sh script running
- reinstall the BOINC client
- run of the Mac_SA_Secure.sh script

The scripts are available at the from the BOINC site : http://boinc.berkeley.edu/mac_admin_tools.php

Alternative, you can verify which owner and group the BOINC directory and the contents has (mostly user boinc_master and group boinc_project) and change the owner and group manualy.

Help me!!

Go into Activity Monitor and make sure Boinc isn't running...

Remove the following items in NetInfo Manager:
users/boinc_master
users/boinc_project
groups/boinc_master
groups/boinc_project

Remove the following items from your hard drive:
/Applications/BOINCManager.app
/Library/Screen Savers/BOINCSaver.saver
/Library/Receipts/BOINC.pkg

*All these items may or may not be present on your machine...

Repair permissions, reboot, and try the newest installer again...

This may be a little extreme, but it is definitely thorough... ;)

Thx for help.. but..

Though I tried the ways both of you told me (executing scripts, repairing permissions and so on), it couldn't get fixed.
Sadly it seems that there's no way but format it all...
Or probably what I did was wrong.

Strange...
But format is not the good way...

Have you tried to fix the permitions manualy ? - Can you please post the output of "ls -laR /Library/Application\\ Support/BOINC\\ Data" here.
