I have been off Seti@Home for some time now because I can't get the BOINC software up and running. It unzips and installs fine. I then type .../BOINC/run_client and get the return: 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.9 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] libcurl/7.15.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8a zlib/1.2.3 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Data directory: /home/ray/Download/BOINC 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] gethostbyname failed 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] gethostbyname failed 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Memory: 3.95 GB physical, 1.56 GB virtual 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Disk: 15.17 GB total, 2.14 GB free 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Local control only allowed 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Listening on port 31416 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Platform changed from to i686-pc-linux-gnu - resetting projects 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] This computer is not attached to any projects 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu for instructions 2006-10-20 13:03:33 [---] Suspending network activity - running CPU benchmarks 2006-10-20 13:03:35 [---] Running CPU benchmarks 2006-10-20 13:04:34 [---] Benchmark results: 2006-10-20 13:04:34 [---] Number of CPUs: 1 2006-10-20 13:04:34 [---] 923 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 2006-10-20 13:04:34 [---] 1713 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 2006-10-20 13:04:34 [---] Finished CPU benchmarks 2006-10-20 13:04:35 [---] Resuming computation 2006-10-20 13:04:35 [---] Rescheduling CPU: Resuming computation 2006-10-20 13:04:35 [---] Resuming network activity and then it just hangs . . . for hours. I've checked around the Seti and BOINC websites but can find no clear step by step instruction of what to do. If I then interrupt I get: 2006-10-20 16:33:59 [---] Received signal 2 2006-10-20 16:33:59 [---] Exit requested by user 2006-10-20 16:33:59 [---] Rescheduling CPU: exit_tasks I'm using Mandriva2006 32 bit version. Please help as I'd very much like to get back on the program. |

I have been off Seti@Home for some time now because I can't get the BOINC software up and running. That says it all. :-) You could now do a) use the -attach_project option b) start the boincmgr and use the graphical add project option ![]() |

Thanks. Last I used it in Linux it was all from the shell. Didn't realise it had gone graphical. |
