If you want a substitute for Photoshop or others, try this freeware program

XnView

XnView is a utility for viewing and converting
graphic files.

Well I'm using photofilter for pics and jasc animation shop for animated gifs. But I might give it a try if this can do both.

I don't know if it can make animations, I have just downloaded the jasc animation shop myself. Thanks for the tip. :-)

This little freeware program is for creating smilies.

Smilie Maker

They need a lot of handling though, as they are saved as *.bmp's so you'll have to change them to *.gif, and the background is not transparent, so you'll have to use another programs to make it transparent.

But go ahead and have fun. And post your smilies here to show us.

No, I took a better look at the XnView, and it's not better than some of my other photo programs. It has some usefull features though and can save in many different formats.

I found the Jasc Animation Shop V311, it's free, it's no Key or reg required and is the full version. I have already played a bit with it.

For windows users XnView is a good free alternative to programs such as Thumbs Plus or ACDsee.
On linux it's rather disappointing and doesn't compare well with Gwenview.
