Message 348194 - Posted: 25 Jun 2006, 7:22:32 UTC

I'm a long time seti@home/BOINC user. I've never had a problem till now. Suddenly the program (at least as a screensaver)has glitched up.
It doesn't want to run. I don't know for sure if it is or not. I've checked "messages" and it's off and on. As a screensaver, it either won't start or if I start it manually it shuts itself off. I've tried deleting it and re-installing but keeps doing the same thing.
Looks like problems with the task manager.
What can I do?

AGELESS....
I was so frustrated, I forgot to say thanks for taking the time to try to help me.
Problem not solved yet. I've been starting the screensaver part manually because I don't actually know if it runs when not in screensaver mode. I'm clicking on the BOINC icon in the sys tray, opening it until I see the graphic of the wobbling SETI@HOME ENHANCED stats and I can tell it's running. Once I closse that window or it closes on its own, I have no clue if it's still crunching.

Thanks again for any assistance.

Once you close the Boinc Manager so it goes to the icon in the system tray, Seti is still crunching. When you have it installed as a service, it will always crunch. But seeing your log, you installed it as something else. ;-)

Only if you exit the Boinc Manager, will Boinc not continue.

The messages in the Messages tab will show what it's doing. When you click the X in the top right corner of the BM, it'll close to the icon in the system tray. You can then check if it's still running by hovering your mouse icon over the Boinc icon. It'll show you a little balloon with the status.

As for Boinc being the screen saver, that's only an added feature of the program. It's not like in Classic, where it was intended as a screen saver. And to be honest, I don't run it much with a screen saver, so I was secretly hoping someone else would take over helping you. ;-)

It is known that Seti will crunch faster when the screen saver is off. So you might want to try that for now. Just set your screen saver in Windows from BOINC to None.

Thank a bunch for the info. I'll take a look and be sure it's running. And I'll try deleting it as a saver. I've just gotten so used to watching it crunch on the screen when I pass by the computer (while not in use for anything else). Thanks again.
