I will be running seti as much as possible. trying to get some friends in on it. the goal is to have 10 computers crunching. im a new member btw=] but here is my question. on my machine. I set it to use 1 cpu, at 37& usage i.e. CPU time. but it still want's to use 50% which isnt really a huge deal, but i would rather it be lower. Why doesnt the software work this way? what would i need to do thanks matt. |

The resource share is for sharing with other projects. There is no way currently for the application to tone down the speed per processor. There are 3rd party programs to do this. One is called Threadmaster, and I am sure there are others. The SETI application uses a low priority, and gives up to other programs, easily. I have it running 100% on all my machines from single processor to dual processor with HT (4 instantces), and do not see a degrade in anything I do. They run 24/7, and I only pause one machine for a certain job, once in a while, out of the 7 machines I am currently crunching on. Hope this helps. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

The resource share setting is not CPU usage setting, but the share for the project. If you are attach to multiple projects, as I am, it determine how much time (ratio) is devoted to the individual project. example settings: Project A 100 Project B 100 Project C 50 ratio is 100:100:50 or simplified ratio is 2:2:1 Project A and B will get to use the CPU twice as much as project C Boinc is design to always use 100% of your unused CPU cycles. Since your system is Dual core it report this as 50% for each core, which is equivalent to 1/2 the power of your computer. 2 core at 50% = 100% of your system. You can tell Boinc to use both core in your account general preference. At the moment you need a third party program to throttle back CPU usage. The next generation of Boinc will most likely contain this feature. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |
