Hello, all. I don't know if this is an appropriate place to post a question, but I think its fairly topical given some of the forum titles. I am a very new member of SETI@home; I just joined in April and would have joined more recently had I even known that it existed :-) It seems that there are various SETI member teams? I would be interested in contributing somehow if there is something useful that I could do. There are a couple of problems, however. I have a very slow, and (to be honest) rather poor quality computer. What little science background I have is in a completely unrelated field. Also, there are some constraints on my time; I went back to college recently and I follow what amounts to a part OR full-time schedule depending on my personal commitments for any given quarter. (Generally between 10-20 credits, nothing unreasonable.) However, I have enough free time to contribute to any projects that could use my time and talents (or lack thereof ;-) and as I said, I am very interested. This whole thing is so exciting! I first heard of it when I joined the Planetary Society; there are all kinds of neat things to do there! (I had lotsa fun with the STARDUST@home project) and I think the SETI@home project is really, really worthwhile! Who knows what - or who - might be out there? Thanks in advance for any info/advice. If this was posted in the wrong place, I apologize. Best, Kate poppypurity@yahoo.com |

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of S@H ;) Your post is absolutely appropriate in here, and I would like to invite me to our team SETI.Germany, but as our boards are usually only german, much of the fun would be missed. So I think, you should try BOINCstats, BoincSynergy or The Final Front Ear imho, or search for some local school/university/company/group (but don't dare to join Seti.USA ;) They all have an english forum, lots of helpful participants and fun. If you're interested in space research, I'd recommend Einstein, they're looking for gravitational waves from pulsars. Unfortunately they had a mayor cooling failure in their server room, so they are down ATM. Other projects can be found in the Wiki. So, happy crunching, every crunchers needed. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

Hello, all. Hi Kate and welcome. Don't worry, you didn't post this in the wrong place. And don't worry about having a slow computer. If you're looking for a team, than I think that you should check out The Knights Who Say Ni!. You can join at the above site if you decide you wanna join. Afterwards, you can visit the Knights Who Say Ni! forum at the KWSN Orbiting Fortress. I'm sure you'll get a warm welcome there like I did. :) Alex |
