For a while I was been able to fill my offline PC with WU for the set 10 days.
Since the change to BOINC 5.2.13 and Seti@Home enhanced I'll only get WUs for 1 day despite the request of CPU time (800 000 sec) for 10 days.

What's wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Manfred

You got one, or two computers? In your account, I see two, identical ones by the looks of it. How did you update to Boinc 5.2.13? By only uninstalling the old Boinc and reinstalling 5.2.13 to the same folder? Or did you do anything else as well?

You can always go through your account, check your General preferences what your settings are at now. Else just edit them, without editing anything per se, then save the page again and Update through BOINC.

Your "new" computer ID does have a 8 results in queue though. And all are Seti Enhanced.

The 2 computers are now reduced to 1 since they are the same machine - you've been right. The update was down automatically to the server in Berkeley - I've got the new version together with WUs. I'll check my settings but they should been on 10 days. Nevertheless there is a message line like

Note:not requesting new work or reporting new results

There are only 3 WUs ready for work (instead of 30 - 50 in former times).

How could I get the real state of 10 day back?

Manfred

BTW: why were there 2 computers listed?

Seti Enhanced has results of variable lengths in runtime. BOINC 5.2.13 calculates how much work it needs on a constant basis, so it depends on what results you already have in your queue for BOINC to decide if it needs more work or not.

Look at this thread to see what the new variable deadlines and runtimes for the SE results are.

As to why you had 2 computers, I don't know. That happens at times.

Patients is also needed here. With Enhanced, the "Result duration correction factor" is changing. As this changes it should start making more sense of the work you are doing. Also with the different sized units, it will be harder to keep a larger cache, because some assuming is happening which does not calculate the amount of work downloading, correctly.

Let things settle for a few weeks, and see how it starts acting.

Another point that is only referenced here and not stated directly. Some of the enhanced workunits have 4 day deadlines. If you get one of these, or any workunit with a deadline less than ~11 days, in your queue it will block more downloads until it is processed.

Thanks for the discussion and hints.

It's starting to improve since I've watched
the increase of my cache (3 > 6 > ?).

Maybe I've to be more patient.

In former times of Seti@Home Classic it wasn't
a problem to fill the cache more easily.

Let's crunch again...

Regards,

Manfred

Hello,

I hope that this discussion is still open.

The problem is back again.
The request was for download of approx. 860000 sec
of new work (10 days of work) and the download was
only 3 WUs, which will be crunched in 24 hours.

The misterious thing is that the 3 WUs have deadlines
on the 02.July and that is more than 10 days ahead.
Will this be the problem?

I'm running BOINC 5.4.9 and seti.exe 5.15.

My preference of 10 days is ignored - in former
times I got work of 30 - 50 WUs well fitted to
10 days of crunching.

I'm getting angry on BOINC.

I have to get this large buffer since I transfer
the WUs for crunching to my office PC, which has
no connecting to the net.

Thanks for any hints.

Best regards.

Manfred

I’m not sure that it’s relevant to your problem, but the Enhanced app generally takes much longer than the previous v4.x apps did, as it’s doing more detailed analyses. The variation in processing time is also much larger than before: hence the variable deadlines, anywhere from less than a week to more than a month from the time of issue. The sudden change in crunching times may have confused your BOINC client; although it should adapt eventually, for a while it may well be cautiously conservative in its determinations of how much work to take on, until a new pattern or ‘rhythm’ is established.
