I'm not part of this team, but I will say that... this is a good team who's founder is also a really decent person.

Lance ... a member of our Carl Sagan team ...... wrote the following:

Well well well, a team crunching in memory of Carl Sagan.

Carl Sagan is responsible for my interest in science (and particularly astronomy, physics and cosmology), to a large degree for my independence of mind, and to some degree for my decision to discard the rather narrow religious worldview I was born into.

Mostly, Carl Sagan is responsible for my sense of wonder. Watching Cosmos as a boy planted a seed of wonder within me that has stood the test of time. In fact it's hard for me to really describe how pivotal Carl Sagan has been in helping me to see wonder in Nature.

I always thought I'd remain independent of any team, but if there's any team I find worthwhile to join it's this one.

Count me in.

Thanks for the kind words A/C. I agree 100% Once my PC finishes its CPDN work unit, 99 more days to go, I'll be crunching SETI again. That'll be my last CPDN work unit for a while. LOL

And thank you Byron for being here as well. This is a great team, doing something in memory for a great person.

If you don't have a team, please concider joining our team. Thank you.

Hello Byron and all people here!

I am thinking to join the one of Carl Sagan dedicated teams, in memory and respect of him.
First what I have find here on the Seti was your BYRON LEIGH HATCH_(FOR CARL SAGAN)) team.

But I see no computers of this team running on the last month.

I am looking into wrong direction? Or, what is happening?

Thanks,
Iulian Nastasache

Greetings Iulian,

I know Byron and Myself are currently focusing our computers on SETI Beta/AstroPulse. This is where the new apps are worked on prior to becoming officail here on Seti@home. I'm not sure of many of the other team members, but some of our primary focus is to help get new applications out from Seti Beta to be brought here eventually. I hope this helps.

Hello and Welcome To __ Iulian __ and Hello Jeremy , and a Special Hello to all 94 members of _our Carl Sagan team_

Iulian . thank you very much for you post!

yes you are quite correct __ I'm not crunching SETI@home Main at the present time.

I'm crunching only one project at the present time _SETI@home / Beta Testing for / Multibeam / SETI@home Enhanced 5. 19 / AstroPulse 4.12_

the reason being , I want to devote my small amount of resource four (4) computers to , SETI@home / Beta Testing for / Multibeam / SETI@home Enhanced 5.19 / AstroPulse 4.12

I thought , this is the best way I can show my great respect for Dr Carl Sagan :-)

to help all I can get SETI@home / Multibeam / AstroPulse / out the door of Beta Testing / and over to SETI@home Main Site :-)

here are my small amount of computer resource that _I _ [ Byron ] _ have :-)

_Results for Byron's _host id_5302_

_Results for Byron's _host id_5303_

_Results for Byron's _host id_5304_

__Top participants____ I'm _[Byron]_ in _ number _5_ Position __(at the present time)__ out _ of _ approximately _ 2000_Beta _ Testers_ for_ SETI@home ___ :-) _

a total of 13 CPU's , devoted only to _SETI@home/Beta Testing for / Multibeam / SETI@home Enhanced 5. 19 / AstroPulse 4.12_

I have my: Connect to network _ set at _ 0.01 days for fast turn around.

I don't like to a large cache , especial in Beta Testing :-)

so that , my 13 CPU's can test , the new Seti applications as soon as they are available :-)

I don't care about Credits :-)

My very Best Wishes to _Iulian_ and all in our SETI@home community :-)

Thanks for the answer.

Sorry, I am newbie here. What exactly is SETI Beta/AstroPulse? It is a place somewhere to read more info about that project? What progress/purpose may be in researching ETI, in comparison with current Seti@home?

Can I help you in testing Beta/AstroPulse? If yes, how? I have a good enough computer running under Linux and full dedicated to the Seti WU processing.

hello Iulian

What exactly is SETI Beta/AstroPulse?

Astropulse

The current SETI@home application looks for signals that are narrow in frequency, but have long duration. That's one way that an extraterrestrial civilization can send a signal that stands up above the radio background noise. Another possibility is that they could put a lot of power into a short duration pulsed signal that has a wide bandwidth. As such a pulse travels through intestellar space, interactions with interstellar matter slow down low frequencies relative to high frequencies in a process called dispersion. This dispersion spreads the pulse out over time. If we know how much dispersion a pulse has experienced, we can correct for this effect. For an extraterrestrial signal we won't know how much interstellar matter the signal interacted with on its journey, therefore we have to try every possible dispersion measure. That takes a lot of computing time.

Astropulse is a SETI@home application that uses coherent dedispersion to search for pulsed signals. In addition to extraterrestrial signals we might see signs of evaporating black holes or discover new pulsars.

You can read more about Astropulse _here_

Can I help you in testing Beta/AstroPulse? If yes, how?

yes :-)

Hi again and thanks for info :)

I have Beta project attached now.

But I am now unsure what app to use.
At starting of running Beta I got the message: "platform 'x86_64-pc-linux-gnu' not found"

Because of that, I tried to use same app and app_info.xml like for setiathome_enhanced (version 517) and looks working (see

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/beta/results.php?hostid=14586 ) but I am not at all sure that way it is correct.

Thanks
