Where is the correct place to file bugs? Until advertised, I'm posting this.

installed the command line cli ok with the "-install" switch but the service wont start even after a restart.

When trying to start the service manually recive the floowing error msgbox.

Could not start the bOINC service
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

Event Viewer --> System shows the service starting and then immediately stopping.

I saw a reference to debug symbols in here somewhere. I'll try and install them and report back with better info.

It is known that the CLI does not work correctly. Please look in the task list and the beta forums.

Give the Network Service full access to the BOINC directory. That should take care of the problem. I am running 3.07 as a service on 6 different systems. None worked until I changed the permissions.

Thanx, that's exactly what I needed to know. I did find the beta forum after this post as it's kept kinda on the down-low.

I thought I was beta testing already anyways, slightly confusing.

Off topic: (if anyone sees this)

The tip in the "unofficial" FAQ on how to enable bug reporting via an xml file doesn't seem to work anymore. Hopefully I can find out more over in the beta area.

Thx guys once again. The perms tip got it going. :)

Yeah, it's a little confusing. Beta isn't really on the down-low, it's this project that is. (well, supposed to be...)

What happened was that the Dev team gave a handful of beta testers the URL to this site. It wasn't even deemed ready for the full beta team to come on over and check things out yet. Someone let the URL out, and the rest is as they say, history. A "botched" launch, so to speak...

So yes, everyone who has logged on to the "live" project is beta testing whether they are aware of it or not, as BOINC isn't yet ready for public release.

It was given to a ALPHA tester and got out.

I also got this error while running as a service under XP
Running client ver 3.20

> Could not start the bOINC service
> Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

Resolution was to change the Log On credentials from Network Services to Local System Account. I also checked the "Allow service to interact with desktop", though I don't know if that made any difference. Anyway, it's running now.
