Strange. Never seen before. Can you please post the messages from the boinc client here, if the error occurs.
Are you able to donwload any WU ?

Which OS do you use ?
Which boinc client do you use ?
Is your nameresolution OK ? - Did a "nslookup setiathome.berkeley.edu" work ?
Can you "ping setiathome.berkeley.edu" ?
Do you use a proxy server ?
