I've downloaded the client, unpacked it and attempted to run it on an old Linux computer I have. This computer doesn't have X server installed, and I don't want to install X on this computer either (harddrive is too small for that). How do I configure and run the BOINC client for SETI@home processing?

Try ./boinc --help

There is a good documentation about installing the boinc client in the boinc wiki : http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Installing_The_BOINC_Client_Software_on_Linux

have you got it running ?

What directory have you installed it into. If it is the default /BOINC then you do not normally have permisions to run progs/scripts straight off in this folder. You will need to start the boinc client app by doing as already suggested by -dotsch- ./boinc & the "./" is important at the beginning of the command as it is saying "here and now run the following command in this place" and the & is saying start this app in background mode ... so it WONT stop running immediately you hit the enter key again. What person where you [logged on as] when you did the install.. eg were you "root" and if so does the folder have the correct permissions set. I will check back here tomorrow and if needed can advise further, or use ssh to remedy situation... regards M
