Running Slackware 10 Linux
Installed latest version of Linux BOINC as root.
It ran fine as root, no issues.
Today I finally created a non root user account.
When I run BOINC it now tells me "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client"
It then asks if I want to try agian.
ls -l shows I have read, and executable permission.
The only permision root has that I dont is Write.
Any suggestions???

Can you please verify, if in the file gui_rpc_auth.cfg is a random string. If yes, remove this string and type in your password followed by a return.
Also, you can try to start the boinc client with the option "-allow_remote_gui_rpc" and try to connect with the boinc manager.

When I run BOINC it now tells me "BOINC Manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client"

a couple of things

1. make sure you are in the boinc directory when you run boincmgr. My desktop shortcut to boincmgr is cd /home/boinc; /home/boinc/boincmgr

2. Stop boinc and take a backup of your boinc folder, then do chmod -R 777 yourboincfolder, restart boinc and boincmgr. If it now works then your problem was down to permissions, if its still doesn't work at least you have confirmed it isn't a permission problem. To put it all back to original permissions, delete yourboincfolder and restore your backup.

That did it. Thanks. I just went in and manually changed permissions on the executble files before. Not to familliar with chmod, knew there was an easier command. Must be some other files that I needed R+W permissions.
Thanks again
