Why is Boinc using bandwidth constantly? I would think it would only need it to upload or download workunits, not use it the entire time it's running. Slows my internet down big time. I don't like that at all. I know I can just "suspend network activity", which I do now, but I just want to know what it's actually sending and receiving when it obviously can't be workunits. Anybody know? Thanks! ![]() |

If you are watching Zone Alarm, or any other firewall, and seeing constant TCP/IP activity, this is because BOINC Manager talks to BOINC client via TCP/IP. Bad design with hardware and Windows may make it look like a lot of activity on the network card, but there really is nothing going in/out, it's all local traffic. If you installed BOINC as a service, you can shut down BOINC Manager when not in use, and you will see the traffic stop, and only run when uploads, downloads and reporting are going. ![]() My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Thanks, Pooh Bear! You answered my question perfectly. I had just reinstalled BOINC after a 2 year hiatus, and you were right, I was watching traffic through Zone Alarm going crazy. Now that I have nothing to worry about, thanks to you, I think I'll stick around awhile. Cheers, Burn ![]() |
