When I start boincmgr from the Konsole, I get:
init_poll: get_socket_error(): -1

BOINC Manager seems to connect though, but I am getting the message "platform 'i386-portbld-freebsd5.4' not found" in response to requesting work, as well as "No work from project".

FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE + KDE 3.4.3
boinc-client-4.68.20050601_2
boinc-setiathome-4.07.20050601_2

Any suggestions?

There is a problem in the app_info.xml in the ports from FreeBSD.
Please use the search engine at the seti forum sites, and search for this error message and FreeBSD. - You will find a lot of questions and solutions.
