why does it seem that BOINC won't report on it's own.

It seem that i have to pick UPDATE manually in order for it to report, and then it might take hours or not at all. I've had bad luck with BOINK and waisted hundreds of hours of comupting time. Any suggestions? Here are my settings. Processor usage Do work while computer is running on batteries? (matters only for portable computers) no Do work while computer is in use? no Do work only after computer is idle for 1 minutes Do work only between the hours of (no restriction) Leave applications in memory while preempted? (suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes') no Switch between applications every (recommended: 60 minutes) 60 minutes On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors Disk and memory usage Use no more than 100 GB disk space Leave at least (Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.1 GB disk space free Use no more than 50% of total disk space Write to disk at most every 60 seconds Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory Network usage Connect to network about every (determines size of work cache; maximum 10 days) 0.1 days Confirm before connecting to Internet? (matters only if you have a modem, ISDN or VPN connection) no Disconnect when done? (matters only if you have a modem, ISDN or VPN connection) yes Maximum download rate: no limit Maximum upload rate: no limit Use network only between the hours of Enforced by versions 4.46 and greater (no restriction) Skip image file verification? Check this ONLY if your Internet provider modifies image files (UMTS does this, for example). Skipping verification reduces the security of BOINC. no Edit preferences |

The reason you have trouble reporting work now, is probably due to the high load on the servers. It should resolve itself in a few hours. Any suggestions?Use a larger cache to stack up WU's for those days which your computer cannot get work. And welcome to BOINC! :) |

BOINC will report on its own, it just doesn't always happen straight away. From the settings you've shown us one would guess you have an always on connection (please confirm) therefore BOINC hastime to react. And as Prognatus said, a larger work cache would be a good idea in case BOINC does not connect in time. It looks like you have a good pair of computers so this might happen. It seem that i have to pick UPDATE manually in order for it to report, and then it might take hours or not at all. I've had bad luck with BOINK and waisted hundreds of hours of comupting time. STOP micromanaging! Boinc is a program that is designed to co-exist with half a million other computers, you are trying to make it act like YOURS is the ONLY one o nthe network. Give it a couple of days of NOT TOUCHING ANTHING, you CAN look BUT NO TOUCHING, and see if it doesn't get new workunits, crunch them and then return them all by itself. If it does, IT WILL, then just let it run in the background like the old Classic version did. Under Boinc as soon as a workunit finishes crunching a small message is sent ot the computer that sends out workunits to the computers telling it that you have successfully crunched the unit. Then AFTER a period of time, ususally hwne you need new units to crunch, the results of that crunching are sent in. The reason for this is simple..2 computers on Berksley's end, one to send out the units and one to receive the finished results. The one that receives the finished results does need the data RIGHT NOW, so it can be done later, giving more time on-line for others to get and return their units. According to BoincSynergy's web site, www.boincsynergy.com , the latest stats for the project are: Total users: 364,987 users Total teams: 34,729 teams Total hosts: 739,703 host(s) That means that there are almost 3/4 of a MILLION computers ALL trying to connect at one point or another!!! You are being just too hands on. ![]() |

Yep, trust your computer to do its own thing. All mine do. Have mine setup for seven days, and there are times they just keep crunching, but don't report. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! ![]() ![]() |

Give it a couple of days of NOT TOUCHING ANTHING... ... and watch what happens over a period of time. This is the best advice. I took a week's holiday, leaving my PC running, and lo and behold, everything was still working when i got back. It's designed to manage the work for you, manual intervention is not normally required. The only time i have problems is when my internet connection plays up, and then i usually have to re-start the whole machine - but that is not BOINC's fault. |

Use a smaller conect time. It will report at the next connect time at the latest. You can also merge your other computer, if it is the nearly identical. Red Bull Air Racing Gas price by zip at Seti ![]() |

Based on the settings, the report should happen within 2.4 hours of the upload. Is it the upload having difficulties or the report? If it is the upload, there will be a line on the transfers tab, and the result will be labeled as uploading. If it is the report, the result will be labeled as ready to report. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |
