Getting problems downloading a workunit.

Can I use a unit that has been downloaded by another machine?

TIA - Keef

No this is not allowed. Each WU is sent to a set of hosts and that is tracked so only those hosts can return it. Its been done to avoid/overcome cheating I understand.

Thanks for the response.

But as we can't get new WUs, wouldn't it make sense to make units portable, even if they have to be got and results submitted via the original machine?

Is there a "distributed" client available? It just seems a shame having machines sat here under utilised whilst others have WUs to spare :-(

Yes a distribution of dispatch and receipt points is a good idea and has been suggested before. Whether it will happen or not is not clear. The normal answer you will get though is that you do boinc not seti. As such you can do many projects one of which is seti. So if seti is down then you can process a cliamte prediction model from cpdn or run a few Einstein WUs or whatever project you please. If you take that boinc view then there is plenty to process and distributed systems as you describe are not needed. If you take a seti only view then my guess is you will always have to wait for the servers to get fixed.

Unless my/other suggestions are "taken on-board".
