Hi. I've got SetiAtHome running with Wine on FC2. There have been some problems, with only completing perhaps 8 data units before freezing up and refusing to send completed units back. I've just tried to install Boinc (the windows version obviously) with Wine on FC2 (wine version 0.9). The problem is that the installer is asking for IE6 , something I had no problem with, with the SetiAtHome install, and the graphics were fine. Anyone know of a workaround for this, as I've no intentions of putting Internet Explorer anywhere near my Linux distros, even though it may (or may not) be fairly safe running it with Wine. the mekon.

What do you mean. Makes no sense to you. I don't use Windoze anymore. I'd like to keep contributing to the Seti project. There is no GUI for the source tarball install for Seti@Home/Boinc, apart from messing about with 3rd party software. Seti@Home classic works ok under Wine. The problem I'm asking about is due to the installer for Boinc insisting on IE6. All I want to know is. Is there a workaround to get Boinc installed with Wine without having to install Microsofts buggy Internet Explorer on my Linux machine. If not I will discontinue using my machine to contribute to the project. This is no big deal to me. I just don't want native MS software on my Linux machine, whether they are disguised within Wine or otherwise. Nigel.

The boinc manager for linux is available on the third party site (boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php)

there is a gui and there are also packages for you flavor of linux available if you have the static linux tarball then in a cli(terminal) start the client from command line simular to this from wherever you put the boinc folder sh run_client and the manager (gui can be started with sh run_manager also a linux client will run more stable and faster eating up less memory. if you have any questions or would like a custom rpm get ahould of me on irc on freenode.net in #mepis
