Howdy. Damn, why don't we have the SciFi Channel here in this country! And 2 Fuzzy: Den ble sendt i går. Husk å ta av de tre limbåndsbitene som holder platen på plass i postgangen, før du tar ut platen av omslaget. |

I just found on Download.com a page entitled Seti@home v5.2.13 Link to Page It downloads the BOINC client v5.2.13, anyone else think this might be confusing? Though from reading the user reviews it doesn't seem to be. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

This is also true, though this site has been pretty reliable in the past. And hopefully they would test it first. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

yeah...i was just there myself...and i agree...it seems to have potential for causing some confusion...since what they are downloading is actually BOINC. And from flicking through the help fora, even people who download it from the BOINC website have complained that it just sits there not doing anything. Still wise to scan it with whatever you've got first before running it though. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

What's it coded in? C++, I think? Any skillfull programmer who's a trained C++ coder can with malevolent intentions put code in it, no virus protection can catch. Because it's coded into it. And how can download.com recognize what it should do compared to what it actually does. Maybe a good test would be, stick it on a computer and watch it closely to see what it does. Along with Virus check, spyware etc. If it did cause problems with peoples machines, they'd have complained and it would have been removed by now, 62 user reviews speak in its favour. That was what i meant, set up a computer with just windows and a few other programs (like Word etc, common stuff) and this version and see it anything happens that shoudn't. And crunch some data in the meantime. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Maybe a good test would be, stick it on a computer and watch it closely to see what it does. Along with Virus check, spyware etc. That would not guarantee to catch any malicious code. Fuzzy is right about how easy it is to change the source code to do something bad. And the Antivirus software would probably not detect it because they (almost all) scan for known virus signatures. That is, recognizable patterns of code, known to be a virus. |

If it crashes for no apparant reason, it could fairly safely be assumed this program had caused it. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

and if that happened too often...download.com...would be down&out.com Exactly, but it isn't, so they got something right. I'm sure this version is completely normal, but its been an interesting discussion. Righto i'm off to bed, i'll see you all in the morning. Night. Check out the old Alien Babe thread. I think there was also a Star Trek babe thread. Well that link is correct. And my question at the end of that thread never got answered. :( A Star Trek babe thread, hmmmm...., I don't remember that one, maybe from before my time in the Cafe? There was this, but I don't know if there were any babes in it? Nope, wrong thread. I had Jeri Ryan pics in it. |
