Is there a Version4 of BOINC out yet? Can't find it in the download page yet.

They made this same stupid mistake before! You would think that they would take some care to not screw up the live project. But no, it is clear that we are back in ALPHA test -- they are obviously making hasty revisions and just throwing them into the server, probably hourly. That is ALPHA TEST folks! BOINC admins really should cancel the live project if you just don't care enough to stop screwing it up. For example, after receiving this version 4 message, all machines will "Defer communication with project for 1 day...", a whole day, great; perhaps that was your intention all along. I've been very patient for weeks now, but this is ridiculous! The BOINC folks have repeatedly demonstrated that they cannot, and don't care to try to, run a "real" project.

Same here.
If I use my mind "deamonic-cleverly", they just trying to put everyone off the project (noone has major version 4, so noone will connect to the db), just to test somekind of new software in their side.

I'm sure that finally the project will be ready for live situations. When? Dont ask me. I am just a boinc-user.

The message disappeared now and I actually got a WU. Must have been a temporary screwup.

They seem to have fixed the problem for now. They still don't have any work to give out though at least the wait to connect is back to 1 hour instead of 1 day.

Please do NOT upgrade to 4.xx yet, it is still being worked on.

The message from the server was a mistake that has been fixed.

Is the 1 day delay related to the erroneous msg? If so, how do we get around the delay and reset on Linux cmd line BOINC apps?

The 1 day delay is caused by the upgrade message. The only way to get past it with the linux client is to edit the client_state.xml file and then do a manual update.

If you want to do this, you need to shut the client down, open the client_state.xml file with a text editor and find the line (about 50 to 55 lines down into the file) that references min_rpc_time. Change the number that appears on that line (between the entries min_rpc_time and /min_rpc_time) to a zero. Save the changes and then restart the client with the -update_prefs flag and it will clear out the 1 day deferral.

Darren, I did the edit on the client_sate_xml file.
I have a question a bit it off topic, still having probs.
with downloading user_logo, been going on for weeks now,
won't clear itself from queue, if I edit this line in the client
state file, will I screw my project? I posted for a 2nd time
in ques/probs. no replies, so I'm asking here. And also what is
the user_logo, is it the logo that appears in the windows version
when you dispaly graphics?

I don't know for certain about the user logo. My client_state.xml file does not have an entry for user_logo, so I would think you could safely just delete the entire line out. However, if you have it set in your seti@home preferences in your online account settings to display a logo (mine is set for "none" in my account settings), it will no doubt just put it back in.

Rom,

Any idea on a possible timeframe for this project to start using the v4.x clients?

Thank you!

Thanks for you help Darren, I tried deleting the entry for use_logo, using
text editor, but it just keeps putting it back in. The strange thing is, is
I also have user_logo set to "none" in my prefs for Seti@Home.
I give up.

Rom, like others I would like to know a general idea of how long until Boinc 4.x. Hypothetically, some of us may be beta testing other things that may require 4.x or higher and I'm sure if that were the case those people would like to do seti at the same time.

Sooo... when will SETI run on BOINC v4? Coz some of us out there have it for 'other reasons', and we want to crunch SETI WU's :)
