I'm simply not sure how to edit preference page - I'd like to run the program as I did in the past just with SETI......... |

If you only want to crunch data while the screen saver is active, then the only question you need to answer is "Do work while computer is in use?" to "No." However, if I may make a suggestion, I'd say leave it to "yes" since SETI-BOINC uses the lowest priority in Windows (it gives up all your CPU time to just about anything else) so as to appear as if it's not even running. It won't interfere with your day-to-day usage and you shouldn't notice it running in the background. The only exception to that is if you use graphics intensive apps or games. Then simply suspending it while you use the program and re-enable it when you're done. I hope that helps. |

One trick that I have heard of for CPU intensive games - set "Do work while computer is in use?" to false. Then when you start playing the game, set the CPU usage to based on preferences - and when you quit the game set the CPU usage to always. If you have a machine with a large swap file, and you are running more than one BOINC project, you should seriously consider changing the setting "Keep projects in memory?" to yes. If you have a modem, you should change the modem related settings to match your usage. Otherwise leave these at the defaults. If BOINC is complaining about not enough disk space, you will need to change the disk usage settings. Exactly how depends upon the problem. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |
