I just installed BOINC on 3 or my Linux servers and I am trying to get the thing going. At the prompt I type the following..

~$boinc -attach_project setiathome.berkeley.edu <key>

The initial key I tried was the one titled Cross-project ID in my Account information as I had read somewhere that the account key was 32 characters long and so is my Cross-project ID. I get the following error...

2005-12-07 15:43:22 [SETI@home] Message from server: Invalid or missing account key. Visit this project's web site to get an account key.

Thought it was a long shot. So you all say, why did you not simply request the account key at the following site

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php

I did, a number of times over the past 4 days. I have used my university email, my comcast account and my yahoo account, all to no avail. I have not received any emails from SAH at all. I even requested the information be sent to a mail server I run where I know there is no chance of a spam filter eating the email.

So I seem to be at an impasse until. If I am not supposed to use the Cross-project ID in my account information and I cannot get SAH to email me the <account key> I am supposed to use to run boinc, I am not sure how to proceed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Berkeley had problems with the servers and the internet connection. Not shure if this is the cause of your problems.
The have done a lot of changes yesterday, up- and downloads are now posible for me.
Can you retry it please.
If it not work in some days, I will write a mail to berkely.

If you can, use the BOINC Manager to attach the project. So you can use a password to attach a project (If you have set one).

Or you look in you cookies. You post in this board and that means you must have entered the account key or it is saved in a cookie. Where this is, depend on the used system and browser.

Or you have a system where BOINC is running with your account. Then you find the account key in the "account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml" file in the BOINC install folder.

The Cross-project ID is a little bit more then your crypted email adress. The account key looks simmilar, but is something different.

Berkley has problems with the transfer of the master database. This seems to impact many other areas too. I was not able to receive mails too. May be we nedd to be patient some days until this problems are sorted out.

correct, your cross-project ID is different from your seti ID.

your seti ID would have been emailed to you when you either transferred your seti classic account (at the link you posted) or created a new account following the instructions at the following link:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/create_account_form.php

if you never got an email when you attempted to transfer your account, there may be a data error in processing the request (incorrect email or password). if this is the case, you can create a new account and merge your seti classic account into it later.

I'm also having problems with my Linux (Mandrake 10) install. I just downloaded and installed the boinc code yesterday. I was able to migrate my classic account info to boinc ok. When I run the boinc manager and try to attach to the seti project, it fails with a "couldn't connect, no schedulers responded". The manager log records are below:
