I am running Boinc (SAH) on a few comuters, but my fastest is a Toshiba A30 with a 2.8 Ghz P4, Problem is that whenever the Boinc Project Runs, the Unit Shuts down after about 30 seconds, but when I suspend the Project it runs fine, I am thinking maybe Overheating, but if anybody has any Ideas...

Please

Leon

it does sound like its overheating. install at least one case fan and/or heatsink and that should help if you dont have much for ventilation.
if thats a laptop, check to see if maybe it is setting to shut down..

It's a common problem with Toshiba Laptop. Your computer is overheating. On my Satellite 2400 with a modified (& improved) CPU heat sink, the CPU temperature is always between 59 and 65 Celcius (140 - 150 F) when BOINC is running. BIOS shutdown the computer at around 70 C to protect the hardware.

To fix your problem, you may try this ...

1) Set Toshiba power scheme to Maximum Performance. The CPU fan will always run at the fastest speed and temperature will cold down few degrees. It might be enough for you.

2) If it doesn't works, try to reduce CPU speed by using a more conservative power scheme. I know, you have a 2.8 GHz computer but ...

3) If both solutions do not work, you must modify your CPU heat sink. I don't recommend it because your computer must be still under warranty. Works fine for me ... my laptop crunchs WUs 24/7 without any overheating problem.

Thanks

Will Contact Toshiba to see if there is anything that can be done apart from introducing N2O (Sorry, a bit of an overkill).
