Hi, I'm quite the Linux newbie, but I've eventualy managed to install a bare bones little Linux (Debian net install distro) server I have running in a corner here with Apache and MySQL and stuff (no X windows system or anyting) that I plan to use to test PHP and stuff on. Anyway since it's not doing much I figured I'd install BOINC on it too. So I downloaded the file using Lynx and followed one of the many install guides online. Now the problem is this. The first couple of times I ran the client I didn't but & at the end of the line or add any other parameters so it took over the whoe terminal. I Ctrl + C ed out, wich cause the telnet window to also disapear, so I connected again, logged in and when I run the "boinc" program now it just says for example: 2005-10-27 22:40:57 [---] Another instance of BOINC is running Ok, so I run "boinc_cmd --quit", wich tells me: connect: Connection refused can't connect Rebooting didn't seem to help and I deleted the lockfile with no effect, and I can't find any "boinc" process running either... Any ideas? |

Are the filesystem for boinc on a NFS filesystem ? Can you please post the output of "strace > output 2>&1" here. |

The filesystem is whatever Debian formated the disk as when I intalled the system Ext3 I think... Tried "strace > output 2>&1" but the output file only contain: bash: strace: command not found So I don't seem to have strace installed. |

D'OH!! Silly me. I logged in and tried running it as root and it worked just fine. I had simply not set the permission on the BOINC folder properly (I moved it out of my /home partition because it didn't have enough space on it (it's a tiny old disk I'm using, barely enough space for a bare bones install and the servers I need). Messing around with chmod a bit should solve the problem. Thanks anyway :) |
