I like others have been with Seti@home for years and I think that this change over could well have done with more testing. However with over 5 million members i feel it is inevitable that during the transition there will be problems. The guys at berkeley i am sure must be under an extreme amount of pressure to try and iron out the bugs and i feel sure that they will achieve it. Remember guys this is'nt just about moving up a leader board this is important scientific work and every ones contribution is important. Lets just keep a little bit of calm over the next few weeks and it will all come sweet. (And no i do not work for them or perhaps we all do !) |

Hi, This is not really a question, but I think this should be kept in mind by all participants.... I just have one comment : I don't have the solution, but moving 5 millions users from one system to another needs to be well managed. Maybe they should have select some testers for a while. I don't assume they did not... but maybe more testing should have been necessary. But keep going in Berkeley's, you're doing a great work, and yes, I'll be patient.. ...Aren't we looking for ETs for hundred years now ?? |

Of course, with hindsight, they could have migrated users in batches, instead of opening it up to all five million users at once. Just like what Gmail is doing. |

As of Friday afternoon, July23,2004, there are less than 26,000 SETI/BOINC users that have received at least 1 credit. On the old S@H project, five million accounts were setup over the life of the project, but most of those people quit with very few work-units completed. If you finished 100 work-units, you were ahead of a large percentage of users. Before the new project started, there were certainly less than one-half million ACTIVE users on the old S@H project. |
