I get the same error message. The SSE version works nicely. I never had these problems with the 4.45 SSE2 version.

I don't see 5.2.4 anywhere other than Mac and Linux.. Where is the install for 5.2.4 windows? I don't see it on ?dev=1 or on /dl

The 5.2.3 and 5.2.4 versions fixed specific problems in the *nix (mac) clients, since these problems were not affecting windows machines there is no new compile for windows. If there was a bug fix release for windows right now it would be version 5.2.5 and the *nix versions would lag behind if the problem did not affect them.

Hmmm....seems to be a lot of work going on for optimizations for Linux and AMD chips. Has all work ceased on Windows and Intel chips or can this work carry over to Windows versions? I was especially interested in the talk about Seti running and caching a lot in memory attempting to speed it up. Is that possible in Windows version? Is anyone working up new Windows versions?

Thanks for allowing the bump!

Message 181542 - Posted: 23 Oct 2005, 18:57:10 UTC - in response to Message 180466.

it works perfectly on my side. I put it in an empty directory and launch boinc.exe. I could attach to alpha project and it began crunching.
On another box, I overwrote over 4.72 and it works fine.

Unzipping SSE2 into a blank directory and running the new boinc.exe produces the error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." This message also appears when the SSE2 version is installed over a clean v4.72 or v5.2.2. The SSE version you've provided works just fine in all cases. This is on an SSE2 enabled Pentium M (Dothan).

I get the same error message. The SSE version works nicely. I never had these problems with the 4.45 SSE2 version.

I have installed BOINC 5.22 on a machine. Then I replaced the boinc.exe file with the optimized boinc.exe one. I compared the dll's from the stock install to the ones provided in the optimized zip. The stock install is 9kb and the one provided in the optimized zip is 40kb. Do I need to replace my stock boinc.dll with the one from the optimized zip from TMR?

I just posted this information in another thread about v4.72, but it is actually more appropriate here, so I hope people don't mind the duplicate post:

I compiled current developer version 5.3.1 for P4/SSE2 (Windows) with the modification for configurable RPC port. Same information as for my v4.68 are valid for this version too - please read them at http://boinc.truxoft.com.

Since some projects do not support v5 yet (for example LHC), I built the same version with a minor hack, so it returns version 4.531 although it is the same v5.3.1. It seems to work fine with both S@H and LHC, but I am just testing it very shortly, so please use on your own risk only.

See more details at http://boinc.truxoft.com
Please don't link to the binaries directly!

Versions for other processors, and possibly an Intel ICC compiled version will hopefully come shortly too.

I've added versions for other CPU types for both versions - pure 5.3.1 and 5.3.1 spoofed as 4.531 (for v5 incompatible projects):

  • p4_sse2 (most current Intel and AMD CPU's)
  • p4_sse (older AMD's)
  • p3_sse (most P3 compatibles)
  • p3 (all p2 and p3 without SSE)

http://boinc.truxoft.com

The additional platforms are not tested yet. If you encounter any problems, please report. For more details about installation, or about the additional feature of configurable RPC port, please read the instructions on the website.

Ok, so to install Trux's client, do we first have to find and install development version 5.3.1 from Berkeley, then over-write boinc.exe with Trux's version?

Or do we just grab the standard Windows release, v5.2.2, and over-write it's boinc.exe with Trux's v5.3.1?

If we need to get Berkeleys development version 5.3.1, could someone please post a link to it? Thanks, and happy crunching.

Regards, Daniel.

I just tried the p3_sse (most P3 compatibles) 4.531. I installed 5.22 and replace the boinc.exe with the 4.531 one and the service would not start. Went back to TMR's 5.24 and it started up. Any idea why this it's not working on my system?

I just installed 5.31 into 5.22 and it works fine. The GUI says 5.22 but the work reports back as 5.31.

You can use any current v5 build for replacing the boinc.exe. I am not sure about the very early 5.0.x versions, but 5.2.x are without problems.

The P4/Athlon SSE version will not run on on either of my 1900+ machines installed as a service. The SSE2 version works like a champ on my A64.

The optimized V5.2.2 really is not needed. Version 5.2.2 over a short time will adjusted for the inaccurate benchmarks with a individual correction for each project. After about 5 returned workunits the correction is fairly close to the end result.
You can adjust this value directly in the client_state.xml file under each project. Adjust at your own risk.
