Why don't they post information regarding the server status? It would help us from getting frustrated with the program if we knew the server would be down for 5 days or 6 hours. Instead, we all come here to grip about the program and no one knows the answer. |

A server status page is an excellent idea and I'm sure it will be implemented in the future. At the moment, there doesn't seem to be any automated mechanism to update such a page dynamically. As far as I know, only the guys at UCB can update the main web page. Fact is they also need to sleep and during that time the page won't be updated. |

They could at least post information about planned maintenance. |

> They could at least post information about planned maintenance. Agreed, however none of the outages that I've seen could be considered as planned. They look to be reactive due to unforseen problems, rather than proactive due to any kind of schedule. I really feel that once the dust settles, these areas of concern will be attended to. |

With a few stats we could make a good guess: Number of Units available for issue Number of Units issued in last hour/day Number of Results received in last hour/day And/Or... When its down or flakey (like it has been for weeks) say so. Only say its working again when it really IS. It is extremely frustrating to see "It's been fixed" messages, but still not be able to get any Units. |

Some more information about where the exactly bottleneck is, as well as what the current setup is like, would also be nice to know. As it stands now, every time there is a problem it is just filed under "It's the 'server'." Well, that may be true, but if I'm not getting any work units, I would like to know if that is because there is no data being prepared, servers are overloaded, database is corrupt, or whatever. |

WHY???? Are they going to say the sever is down, we already know that, so what you want is a detailed description of the problem that will confuse you and take up precious DEV time. Have a nice Day I think I am pretty smart, so I don't think any explanations would "confuse" me. I think this information would be nice for several reasons. I don't know how the backend works, and I just like to know these things. A description would be nice to have. It would also provide more detailed help so people don't have as many questions. We are donating our time and CPU power to this project, so it isn't out of line to want to know just how it works. Most of us are here because we are curious about how things work. An automatic server status page would not take much time to put up. I don't think it would be a waste of development time. Basically, I would like to know exactly what is happening with the transfer to SETI BOINC. I think a lot of other people would like to know too. Taking a couple minutes to write an update and post it isn't asking a whole lot. |
