Well, since we're going that way, and as someone said below, "I stand my ground, Bush is a liar...." "I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- John F. Kerry, Oct 2002 "The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but as I said, it is not new. It has been with us since the end of that war, and particularly in the last 4 years we know after Operation Desert Fox failed to force him to reaccept them, that he has continued to build those weapons. He has had a free hand for 4 years to reconstitute these weapons, allowing the world, during the interval, to lose the focus we had on weapons of mass destruction and the issue of proliferation." -- John Kerry, October 9, 2002 "(W)e need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. We all know the litany of his offenses. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. ...And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. That is why the world, through the United Nations Security Council, has spoken with one voice, demanding that Iraq disclose its weapons programs and disarm. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but it is not new. It has been with us since the end of the Persian Gulf War." -- John Kerry, Jan 23, 2003 And there are plenty more. Robert "Flip'em the" Byrd, Maddie Albright, Bill and Hillie, the list is endless. They all said the same thing. Hey, I came up with a new chant: "Kerry Lied, People Died." Here's the point folks: Politicians lie. Constantly. On both sides. Choose your principles and apply them equally to all comers. Don't buy into Moveon or Ann Coulter's Barbra Streisand. |

Good example of a half truth. Gore's quote was a repetition of the information which was disseminated by the White House. The same reason which many Senators and Congressmen voted for the war. We now know that all that intelligence was completely false and/or manufactured. If you don't believe me, just ask Colin Powell. Account frozen... |

@ Rush Kerry was an establishment hack. The only reason I voted for him was that the other "choice" was so repugnant. I can only agree with you that most, if not all established pols lie throught their teeth. Unfortunately, many times we are left to vote for, as they say, the lesser evil. IMHO, Kerry was by far the lesser evil. Now we've got a borrow and spend, evangelical idiot who now has the whole world hating us. Mr. No More Taxes is going to get the biggest tax increase in history when they do away with the mortgage interest deduction. Of, coarse he's not raising taxes, only doing away with the biggest tax deduction. It will cost the average American $2,000 a year after the increasing blanket deduction. Screw Bush! No more taxes - bullshit! Have a nice day. Account frozen... |

Good example of a half truth. Gore's quote was a repetition of the information which was disseminated by the White House. The same reason which many Senators and Congressmen voted for the war. We now know that all that intelligence was completely false and/or manufactured. "We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction." Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998 "One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 "He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998 "[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton. Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998 "Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Dec. 16, 1998 "Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999 Who was president in 1998 and 1999? Shall we start with the chants of "Clinton lied. People died."? No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much. ![]() |

Kerry was an establishment hack. I prefer the term 'soulless partisan', and they exist on both sides of the aisle, but making an obvious non-leader into a presidential candidate is a sign of a party in serious trouble. The only reason I voted for him was that the other "choice" was so repugnant. I can only agree with you that most, if not all established pols lie throught their teeth. Unfortunately, many times we are left to vote for, as they say, the lesser evil. Call every elected offial who represents you and demand transparent campaign financing. Although this will not get rid of back-room politicking, it is a step toward accountability for politicians. Maybe the "slippery slope" can tilt in the right direction for a change. IMHO, Kerry was by far the lesser evil. We'll just have to disagree on this point. John Kerry is proud of the role he played in hamstringing the US's ability to prosecute the war in Vietnam. Whether you agree with our reasons for being in Vietnam or not, you can't imagine that al Qaeda would do anything short of dance in the streets if their mortal enemy had such a person as their president. Now we've got a borrow and spend, evangelical idiot who now has the whole world hating us. Nations borrow when they are at war. This is not to say that all of the spending in Washington is justified... not by a longshot. The whole world hated the US long before Bush took office. The run-up to the attacks of September 11, 2001 were well underway when Bush was sworn in. The United States is the lone superpower, and this makes it the target of every state and non-state actor in the world including allies (they'd like the US to be dependent upon them to act within the sphere of influence). You're referencing a tax advisory panel's recommendations, not any kind of stated policy. The panel was working under the unrealistic requirement to be "revenue neutral." This means assume that changes in the tax laws will have no effect on behavior. The reality is the Laffer Curve, where reductions in tax rates can fuel enough economic growth to offset the "loss." Having 35% of $1 trillion is less than 15% of $3 trillion (completely made up numbers). The Laffer Curve implies that there is an optimal effective rate of taxation, go too far above or below it and revenues fall. The way that a flat (or flat-ish) tax is usually advertised is a low rate with few if any deductions. Billions of dollars per year would be freed up just from compliance costs (of course, many tax advisors would be thrown out of work). This can't be done with a revenue neutral assumption, which is why the plan looks absolutely horrid in its current form. The political problem for a flat-ish tax is that politicians will no longer be able to pay off contributors with tax breaks. The marginal rates have be so low and attractive that the electorate holds the politicians' feet to the fire and force them to vote for it. (edit for spelling) No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much. ![]() |

BTW on the financial evaluation; those people could never get their CPA license using the 8 acceptable methods of public accounting. Instead, check for ancient Chinese accounting methods. Every time I see the news about France I kept getting this picture in my head so here is a Captain Original.... Integrating a particular group is a huge undertaking, The rioters are 1st Generation French, Muslim or not. Look how long it has taken the US to do it and still trying to do it. I don't think Communism has anything to do with it. I think The culture of France and fear of loosing that culture is the problem. ![]() |

Integrating a particular group is a huge undertaking, The rioters are 1st Generation French, Muslim or not. Look how long it has taken the US to do it and still trying to do it. I wasn't referring to the rioters per se, or even integrating any particular group. Frankly, I think the U.S. has been one of the more successful experiments; however, I think that "celebrating diversity" for the sake of diversity and an ultimate goal of integration are diametrically opposed. I don't think Communism has anything to do with it. I think The culture of France and fear of loosing that culture is the problem. I think their communist/heavily socialist tendencies have a lot to do with it: the costs will crush them. As far as the "culture," well, welcome to reality. Culture is nothing but somewhat similar but freely made choices of a group of people. When those same people make different choices, the "culture" evolves and changes. C'est la vie. |
