I created user seti and mkdir seti. I made /seti directory permision user=seti and group=seti. I added /user/dave (me) to group seti. seti works fine. Downloads, wroks on stuff, etc. seti attempts to use /dev/hda1; I want seti to use /dev/hdb1 (200 GB storage drive). When restarting seti by using terminal ./boincmgr I get the GUI but it does not "see" the previous work done during this week's test. Questions: 1. How to make seti use only /dev/hdb 2. Location and howto change script to retrieve previous data. 3. OK to kill user seti and reinstall under user dave? Which is better? TIA Dave |

seti attempts to use /dev/hda1; I want seti to use /dev/hdb1 (200 GB storage drive). As far as I know BOINC uses whatever directory it is installed in. And it makes subdirectories for each project that you attach. If you want them to use /dev/hdb1 then mount the drive and make the /seti directory on that drive. Install them there, or just mount the drive to the /seti directory if nothing else is going to be on /dev/hdb1. Be aware that if you mount a drive to an existing directory anything that already exists will not be available until you unmount the drive. Boincmgr is a GUI that talks to the boinc client. Start the client first(I use the 'run_client' script), then start boincmgr. It doesn't really matter what user you have running BOINC, any user can start boincmgr and control the program.
