If you go into 'Your Account', and enter the 'General Preferences', near the botton you will see a section titled 'Disk and Memory Usage'. In this section you will see a line 'Write to disk at most every'. It is set at 60 secounds. You could set it higher, say 900 secounds (15 minutes). Higher if you want to.

But keep in mind if you do this, you progress is not written to the disk as often. So if you machine is shutdown for any reason you could lose up to 15 minutes of execution time.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you have a old hard drive that has a posibility of faiure constant starting and stopping could excelerate the progress. I have seen machines run for months or years with no problems. But when they were cold booted they had instant drive failure.
