I just emerged the BOINC package. Whenever I run the GUI, it tries to connect to localhost and then says "connection failed" and stays disconnected. Typing in my SETI@Home account details doesn't help at all. How can I fix this?

Running Gentoo 2005.1 Stage 3, on an AthlonXP 2400+ box.

Have you already started BOINC?

The BOINC manager is a control program that talks to the master BOINC server which controls the various clients (SETI, LHC, ProteinPredictor, etc..). It is these that connect to the net and download and upload work.

I use the "run_client" script (with the changes needed on my system) to start the server. Once the BOINC server is running you can run the GUI to attach to and control the projects you choose to particpate in.

Good luck,

I'm not sure. I've only used BOINC in Windows before, and it "just worked". I would appreciate some sort of idiot guide :)
