I did a little search and couldn't find out what these terms refer to so... I see problems/growing pains associated with "splitters" and "transitioners". What are these? Am I right in assuming (very basically) that the splitter divides the data into 3 separate data packages for 3 separate computers to analyze (and send them out to us) and the transitioner is used to collect and compare the 3 separate results and issue the resulting credits... or am I completely wrong? |

I probably only have a slightly better idea than you. Splitters I think you have right. The transitioner I think converts pending workunits to completed workunits. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |

I believe that the splitter takes the raw data tapes from the radio telescope, and creates three copies each of many WUs out of it. The scheduler then takes a copy and sends it to a host to crunch. The transitionier has something to do with the verification/credit granting/rescheduling of lost or error WUs. ![]() |
