I can find plenty of documentation, but am unable to find the app for download. I do see an OSX-ppc version, but no other unix version. The GUI is not an option. steve |

If you had visited this page you would have noticed that there is still a pure command-line version available for Linux. Also BOINC 4.43 for Linux works as a seperate command-line core program and a gui BOINC Manager program, which is not essential. If you are running a non-x86 version of linux, then it could be available here, or you might have to compile BOINC and the Seti client yourself. There are are also versions for FreeBSD, Solaris and HPUX available there. Good Luck :) Edit: spelling, other unixes Need help? Check out the excellent Unofficial BOINC-Wiki! 'We are the BOINC. Prepare to be assimilated.' |

Actually, this does not answer his question. He, like me, is looking for the *boinc_cmd* binary, which is not a part of any current (or available on that page) linux distribution. To be able to do funky stuff like specify "nomorework", you need that binary, or be master of the undocumented depths of the xml file. I'm about to drop about 90 systems from BOINC, as their CPU time is needed elsewhere, and will likely have to drop all partially completed work units on the floor, as I am unable to let the clients finish without downloading more work. If my frustration shines through, I apologize. Before anyone gets pissy with me, the wiki does not mention the "no more work" options, so I refer to this page (which considering its location should be fairly authoritative, no?): http://boinc.berkeley.edu/client_unix.php Note that is "Client Unix". Hence, the boinc_cmd binary is referred to has existing for what? Unix. But where is it? AWOL, it seems. The non-gui users seem to have been left out in the cold when it comes to feature availability. I'm tired of the general BOINC related arrogant attitude that every answer is in the wiki, and if you ask a question you are an idiot who could not either read or reverse engineer an answer. Here is a bit dated answer to this question, which sums it up as "you don't": http://www.ssl.berkeley.edu/pipermail/boinc_alpha/2005-April/001776.html Unless you are lucky enough to get your hands on the source code and build it yourself... Eric |
