Hello, I've much enjoyed being a part of Seti over the years. To find new intelligent life on other planets would be a very good thing. Unfortunately, you appear to be moving to "BOINC". The name in itself is iffy, but I've found little about the software that is user friendly. If Seti converts completely to "BOINC", I'm afraid I'll have to bow out. Good luck to Seti and good luck to us all! :)

Kathy,

I'm sorry that you feel this way about BOINC. What is it about BOINC that you do not like? Please, keep in mind that BOINC is a work in progress. It will get easier and it will get better. I hope you decide to stick around and be part of the fun of the evolution of this software.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask them. Also, the WIKI has a wealth of information. http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Please take some time and look through the wiki. I think you'll find it informative. :)

Good luck, Kathy

Yes it has a bit of a learning curve. And there are several places where they should make changes, both for ease of transition and for better functionality. Boinc (far less questionable than say IIRC: Pine is not Oak, but that might just be my opinion), by design will have to be in a perpetual Beta state. To explain, some of the new projects need new protocalls in Boinc, and every "fix" breaks something else (not by design, but it always happens and not just here, any and all programs).

I didn't find the change over too hard, but I think that was due to my hiatus from Seti. Between time on United Devices, a few other DC projects, and various P2P networks (primitive gnutella clients were fun to set-up ;) ), setting this up was easy. Sorry you've had a rough go of it, and best of luck to you.

Still looking for something profound or inspirational to place here.

What's so user unfriendly?

With Seti Classic you waited for an e-mail, installed the software, entered one piece of information and were up and running.

With Seti/BOINC you wait for an e-mail, install the software, enter two pieces of information and you are up and running.

Simple :)

Anything else is usually due to server crashes or building works or both. Out of our hands anyway :)

Please dont give up :(
