My question is, under the Messages tab you get all the information regarding uploads and downloads, etc., but is there a limit to how far back and/or how big this file gets? Or this there a setting somewhere to define limits? Thanks |

I don't remember the limit of the number of messages but anyway the content of that tab will be cleared once Boinc is closed and then reopened. Read the News at the homepage Have a look at the Technical News Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki Best greetings, Thierry |

The list used to auto truncate at a certain number of lines, but people complained. |

So what you are both saying is, that at certain points in time it is best to stop and restart BOINC, otherwise the Messages log is going to get massive? Rather than a Number of Lines limit, I wonder why didn't they make it date based (say 30 days) or size based (like the Event Log)? Anyway, thank you both for the info. Regards, Kevin |

The log in BOINC itself gets cleared, but the actual log files are persistent. It will still remember the messages even if you exit BOINC. So it depends what type of massive you're talking about. ;) If you don't like looking at an unwieldy log in BOINC, then yes, it helps to stop and start BOINC. But no, it doesn't affect log size. Rather than a Number of Lines limit, I wonder why didn't they make it date based (say 30 days) or size based (like the Event Log)? There is some sort of limit, but I'm unaware of what it is. I've seen dates in my logs going back a month or so, and I've seen mention on the forum somewhere of someone with a 5MB log file. |

If I remember correctly the limit is 1000 entries. It was unlimited at first which is probably where that 5MB file came from. BOINC WIKI ![]() ![]() BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

So what you are both saying is, that at certain points in time it is best to stop and restart BOINC, otherwise the Messages log is going to get massive? The UI is self limiting to 1000 entries, but the log file itself is not limited in this way. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |
