The nastiest virus ever created: Seti-BOINC!? Wrong. The nastiest virus ever created is Windows. You even pay for it.
If you cannot stop a process, then it is not the process' fault, it is the OS (Operating System) you're running, don't you think so? And that's about all I'm gonna say. |

The nastiest virus ever created: Seti-BOINC!? I think the nastiest virus ever created is AOL. The seeds are everywhere and somehow find their way to your mailbox whether you have a computer or not. Once it infects a computer it is difficult to get rid of. Attempts to uninstall often result in a message stating that the software was not found. For those willing to allow it to continue to infest their systems there is a continued increase in it's disk usage as it upgrades itself, creating a new directory for each succeeding generation. Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001) |

You just reminded me of something from a few years ago. My dad has zero skills on a computer and zero patience to match. He had installed a newer version of AOL. It was fine that day, but the next day when he signed on and it opened up to the main page it was all in Spanish. He got so mad I thought he was going to have a stroke. After a few attempts myself, seeing it would not keep his preferences, he asked me to call the AOL Tech Support people for him. He knew he would blow up on them. After dialing several numbers that several AOL Techs gave us, and waiting at least 5-10 minutes between each Tech we finally get one who could help. The problem was I almost could not understand what he was saying. He was from Pakistan (or some place similar) (no disrespect intended to anyone either) and his accent was so thick that everything he said I had to ask him to repeat several times so I could understand and everything I said to him had to be repeated. It was a major nightmare. Some people swear by it, some swear at it. No matter where you go, there you are... ![]() |
