Message 147007 - Posted: 4 Aug 2005, 19:24:14 UTC - in response to Message 142067.

Hi all,

Thank you all for the response so far!

Could anyone send me the official 4.18 seti-client by e-mail (speedy67 at marisan.nl) so I can bench it? Might be a nice extra to see what the difference is between the optimized clients and the official 4.18.

Greetings,
Speedy67

WOW what a diffrence went from just over 3 Hr average to under 2 Hr 15 Min on a AMD XP 2800+
Thanks for the link to get the optomized client, clear concise directions on how to install really helps.

Host mycroft:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1152608

MSI K8N Neo2 (Chipset nVidia nForce3 250 rev. A1)
AMD Athlon64 3200, venice core, sse3 support, 512k/800
Core speed 2.5 GHz (10x250 MHz HTT speed)
Mem speed dual channel DDR400 running 208 MHz 2-3-3-6-1T
Win2k-sp4+.

The Athlon64's are trivial to overclock! Just up the core voltage 10%, and this is just using the stock, AMD retail box cooler, which doesn't even run at full speed, to keep the temp below 50 C.

Anyway here are comparitive results:

Yaoscw-w-r7:
4826.578125

Yaoscw-w-r8.1:
5334.922903

Yaoscw-P-r8.1 will not run.

Always nice to see happy faces. :)

Another happy face here too, of course!

I would send you the 4.18 client, but I too lost track of it, and don't have a copy left.

It might even be nice to put on your web site, and let folks benchmark with it, as well.

But hey, has anyone tried memtest86, on an athlon64 machine? Mine won't even start to run.

Haven't run Memtest86, but I've run Memtest86+ on my FX-53. No problems.

Speedy

Not sure if you still need it but
4.18 UCB Client
Remove the .zip at the end and it should run fine... Funny I am paying for hosting and they do not let me place what I want for download without hassles.... LOL

It's the first Venice in the reference list, and it has a big difference between the r7 and r8.1 clients. The Winchesters only have a difference of about 125 seconds. I'm curious if my upcoming new server-machine (Athlon64 Venice 3000+) gives the same picture.
Thanks for your input, I added it to the list.

Greetings,
Sander

Thanks!

I will add it to the website later this evening.

P.S. Is there a way to make it run without the screensaver thingy?

Just don't let it add to your screensavers. Just blank screen, for screen saver.

No I meant with just the 4.18 client and the reference unit in a seperate folder it runs in standalone-mode, but still opens a window with the screensaver thingy. I can imagine that has negative influence on the cpu-time.

Greetings,
Sander

Since you pointed out the variation with the venice core results, I re-ran the Yaoscw-w-r8.1, and got:

4851.671875

Much more in line with others. I guess I had some other stuff running, the first time I ran it, or something..?? More swapping eating up time. I dunno.

Anyway, you should fix the data on web site.

Ow... just when I thought I stumbled across something interesting. :)
I updated the website, thanks for the update.

Host hal:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1161224

Shuttle SB51G X-PC - FB51 Mobo - i845ge chipset
Intel P4 2.4GHz/512k/533 Northwood core, no sse3, no HT.
Core speed 2.69 GHz = 18 x 149.4 MHz FSBspeed
Mem single channel DDR400 running 187 MHz 2-3-3-7
Win2k-sp4+.

Comparitive results:

Yaoscw-n-r7: 6311

Yaoscw-n-r8.1: 6565

So, it looks like 9 times out of 10, the r7 release was better than the r8.1...

Is this info getting back to Tetsuji?

Don
