Ok, here's my set up. I have an Intel chip with Hyper Threading technology running XP. My problem: though boinc sees it as two processors, it only runs it on one.

Any advice?

Not sure how it runs on a computer with HT, but you do have two host IDs. Might be that one CPU is using one host ID, while the other uses the other.

Check the FAQ on this though.

Thank you. But that did not quit help. Maybe I'm not tech savvy enough to understand.

I have a Pentium 4 3.0 mhz HT CPU and here is what you have to do. Goto the GENERAL preferences and edit them. Tell it to use 2 processors instead of 1 (which is the default). Exit the Boinc program and restart it. You will then see 2 work units running at the same time. It you look at the windows task manager in xp you will see 2 instances of the seti client instead of just 1.

I don't get it, but it has started using "two" processors, now.

Thanks,

I'm running a P4 3.2GHz with XP home SP1 and it runs 2 instances without problems on the default settings

The setup and "general Preferences" are on the SetiBOINC site. Go to the site and log in to your account. You should be able to find it there. When BOINC runs, it looks at this site for its settings. The preferences are not accessible within the BOINC client.

Please Note: If you read the FAQ on the BOINC site (not SetiBOINC), it says that Hyperthreading CPU's don't increase work speed when you run two instances of the BOINC client. You only get better performance if you actually have two (or more) CPU's.

I have P4 with HT and running 2 paralel SETI@home clients under BOINC and it DOES 2 WU in approx. 4 hours. In case of single client it does 1 WU per approx. 3,5 hours.
That's a difference.
