Hi all! New, fresh install of Fedora Core 4. Durring install, it asked me if I wanted a firewall, I said yes. I can NOT get BOINC to work. Never asks me for my key or account stuff. I do get the following message. 7/6/2005 12:03:15 PM||Remote control not allowed; using loopback address AND, the GUI manager says something like "can't connect". ANY HELP APPRECIATED!! I am GUESSING that the FC4 firewall is blocking the port or ports BOINC needs. BUT, I can not find any "firewall configuration" settings in the FC4 menus. A) Could my error be due to a firewall? B) What ports need to be open for BOINC? C) Where can I find the configuration for the FC4 firewall? D) What else could my problem be? Thanks much! |

Is it IPtables like FC3 firewall? A) Yes it could be B) It uses port 80 at UCB C) boinc manager uses 1043 D) Hmmmmm...... If it is the firewall and it is iptables there are many articles on the web to help. Its not.....easy though. Happy to help if I can but I have FC3 only knowledge. One thing I did do was turn off SE system....it really gets in the way when trying to get things up and running. ![]() |

Is it IPtables like FC3 firewall? Cool. How do I turn off SE? I think I did select it durring install. Thanks! PS, IF, FC4 uses iptables like FC3 (good info thanks), I think I can use "service iptables stop" to turn the whole thing off to check, I'll try that. |

Is it IPtables like FC3 firewall? Well you may need iptables to get any forwarding you want. I use FC3 as a router/ firewall / server etc for my home LAN. So I need iptbles to do forwarding of packets and masquerading of IPs. So dont "lose" it as you may need it.....at least as a firewall. As for SE ....on FC3 using gnome goto applications--->system settings --> security level. There you will find all the options for SE and can make any changes you wish. make a note of what you change in case u wanna go back after. I hope this helps. ![]() |
