What is the minimum amount of disk space that BOINC needs in order to get WU's. Am trying to set up a new PC as a BOINC client, but I get messages back saying that there isn't enough disk space. Have changed "Preferences" but still no WU's coming down. Can't think that BOINC needs multi-Gb to run....! If it does, then I'll need to reconsider running SETI...! T. |

Actually, the message I get that comes back is: "SETI@home - 2004-06-23 23:08:02 - Message from server: No work available (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)." Pooh-eee !! So BOINC is getting upset coz I don't allow it to rampage over MY hard drive....! And I though this was a VOLUNTARY distributed CPU system, where "I" could determine the amount of resources "I" want to allow to be used.....! T. |

So what size do you have set then? I'm using a maximum of 0.1GB for BOINC. ---------------------- Jordâ„¢ [url=http://www.boinc.dk/index.php?page=user_statistics&userid=41965] ![]() |

Have now set to (by co-incidence) 0.1GB and I've now got a few units...! Not sure why lowering the available file space causes BOINC to download WU's. But that's what has "seemed" to happen...! T. |

I bet any number less than either 4GB or 2gb will work. 4GB is the largest number that can be represented by a 32 bit unsigned number. 2GB is the largest number that can be represented by a 32 bit signed number. jm7 |

Hi, I had the same problem when trying to run a smaller PC as "work". The smallest PC must be "General" or Boinc finds the minimum disk space to be left is more than the available space. Your problem may be related to this. I would suggest that the disk space you allow on "General preferences" should be the space actually available on your smallest PC, to be safe set the timings for the slowest one as well (although I have not heard of any problems in this bit). This may be a bug in the setting of "work" preference usage. I am sure that they have worst problems to handle before they sort out this one. DaveB |

I set it to .05 gigs and haven't had a problem. I figured that 50 megs should be enough to keep the program going for a while at least. I'm on Broadband so it can connect whenever it needs to. I've had a problem getting work units too, but mine is due to the seti server issues. > Actually, the message I get that comes back is: > > "SETI@home - 2004-06-23 23:08:02 - Message from server: No work available > (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)." > > > > Pooh-eee !! The minimum disk space is just over 6 megs for Boinc, Setiathome, and the work units. I have my preferences set very low, as I have Boinc on a USB drive for when I boot up a knoppix disk. |
