I have downloaded and am running the new software but am not sure what is happening. I have a choice between the old SETI screensaver and the new BOINC one. Do I have to remove the old SETI program? Pete (Class of 20 Sept 2003) |

The best way is to remove Seti Classic otherwise Classic and Boinc will fight for CPU time. Read the News at the homepage Have a look at the Technical News Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki Best greetings, Thierry |

SETI@home classic has a higher priority than BOINC so BOINC will get hardly any CPU time, if you uninstall classic, BOINC will take priority in the systems idle loop so will be able to process data when the CPU is not otherwise occupied. Not sure this is 100% true although mentionned by several people several times. When opening taskmanager both applications are running at low priority, using Process Explorer they both are mentionned as using priority 4. What is true is that Boinc and Boinc Manager are running at normal priority or priority 8, but they are consuming very low CPU time compared to the S@H applications from Classic as well as Boinc/S@H. |

If you actually have the two running at the same time and look in the task manager you will see that Classic overules BOINC when idle and uses about 95% of CPU time, (The task manager and "system idle processes" were using the other 05%) BOINC had 00. The best way is to remove Seti Classic otherwise Classic and Boinc will fight for CPU time. You are going to have difficulty. You can try sending an email to dave anderson, but you will have to have some proof that you have rights to the old account. ![]() ![]() BOINC WIKI |
